Recommendation for a Floor Jack?

I have a 40 year old Heinz Werner Jack I bought at a Garage Sale for $50.00! It leaked badly and didnt sustain a Load. I found the Heinz Werner supplier and rebuilt the rubber. It doesnt leak at all and I have used it for 15 years and jacked up some pretty heavy cars.
I am looking for another Floor Jack, I noticed the prices are incredibly Low Now, even at Sears. I am a little leery of their quality now because they are not made locally anymore but offshore. Many times I notice these types of equipment Rust very badly within one year because of the Steel or paint they are using--my $150 engine stand is now mottled with Rust.....

Only If I could find another used Heinz Werner...

Does anyone have a brand they can recommend?

I have a 2 ton Sears jack that is about 20 years old. Still does the job. I also have a cheapie 1 1/2 ton from Wal-mart. It does the job too, just not as heavy duty.

I can heartily recommend floor jacks by AC. These are very low profile, high quality units. A while back I participated in a group buy from another list and I have used the heck out of mine since then. They are not cheap, but worth it.

Here is one source for them:

Hein Warner jack

I too have a jack made by Hein Warner. It is also many years old. If you went out to purchase an equivalent model today, be prepared to spend $1000. These jacks were made in Wisconsin, I believe and they are second to none. Have the jack professionally rebuilt by a hydraulic shop; you wont be sorry. They are THE BEST.

Spot on Wolfgang. I had my two 40 year old Hein Warner ton and a half jacks rebuilt last year. $160 each . I use them often to pull 911 or 930 Porsche engines with a factory jack plate that fits the HW lifting plate. Not many people still have the rebuild kits in stock. I took one jack back four times and the other went back twice before they got it right
For other stuff I like the aluminum two ton jacks sold at Harbor Freight for $179 to $199. I know lots of people that use Harbor's $129 ton and a half jacks. Just remember that NO rebuild kits are available so far.

I got the 2 1/4 ton floor jack from Harbor Frieght 7 years ago, as a temporary jack. Still have it it works great. Very tough piece of equipment. I use it alot and it's still looks and works like new. Part number 4172-1vga $53.99 on thier web site. Most of the H-F stuff I only use for light duty or I seldom used, but the jack is great. Just my 2 cents. Good luck on your quest.

I have a Norco jack I purchased from Otto Service in Burbank CA. Happy with the jack. Seems to be well built despite be manufactured overseas.

Funny story on their web site about jack stand safety.

Bought a Sears 2 ton jack three years ago on a big sale. Shoulda passed on it. Broke right away. Sears repair kept it until the warranty ran out. Then when I got it back it was not repaired. They would not repair it until I got the state attorney generals office to intervene.
Last year it quit again. This time I just drained the hydraulic fluid and refilled it. Sort of works now.
Don't think I will recommend any Sears jack now.

Sears jack

Chinese ****, can't be relied upon. Trust me your best bet is to do as I did and get old American equipment and have it rebuilt. And this reply isnt even addressing the political aspects of Chinese goods - made by political prisoners and others deemed unworthy by Red China. How can this be fair trade?

Depends on your budget. I have three Sears floor jacks, two purchased in 1994, another in 2003. I would not buy another one. The kwality is just not there any more, IMO, and they don't sell seal kits to repair my leaking 10-year old jacks. My next purchase will be a twin post lift now that they're cheap enough. If I had to get a floor jack, I'd save my pennies and pay the exorbitant prices for the quality "made in USA" jacks, which are $300-$400, instead of the Sears $75-$150. YMMV, etc...

:p

I don't buy Chinese stuff either, I don't want to support their economy anymore than I can help it. Too many of our jobs are going there. Too many of our people are out of work because of the Chinese. But that's another story that belongs in the Open Forum.
I use my 40+ year old US made bottle jack (never has leaked) and a some US made jack stands for all my undercar work.
