Working on the cars today, to many cars
Worked on the cars all day today and right now we have 0, nadda, none, no working cars.
The 300TD was doing great after the AC rebuild and suspension rebuild. The shifter bushings were bad, actually missing, and I decided to replace them. Broke the neutral safety switch doing it. FINALLY got my daughters rear transmission seal replace. Learned how to do over the last couple of weeks. I have the 12 point socket that will fit it. But, as I discovered, the tranny has the 4 prong nut on it. Measured the unit at the dealer and tried to make one. It broke. Ordered the tool from Sir tools. Ordered the wrong one. The WB4 025 tranny uses the M0032 Sir tool not the M0029 I ordered. Sir Tool was nice about my screwup. Took another week to get it due to Memorial Day. Made the yoke holder, but it broke. Welded a metal handle on it and it finally worked. Could not get the nut off. Called the people at European Transmissions and he advised using an impact wrench. Came right off. Installed the new seal and NEW nut, so the tranny is done. Still need to install the driveshaft, had to take it out to R+R the tranny seal. Frustrating part is, I'll never use the Sir Tool again. The 240D now has the new nut and the 300TD does also. Did the shifter bushings on the 240D and thats why I decided to tackle the 300TD bushings, should have known better. Finally have all the parts to complete the 240D front end rebuild. Just the LCA bushings, brake mounts, rod bushings, new rotors, pads, wheel bearings and sway bar mount bushings. I wanted to do the front sway bar mount bushings but after removing the battery tray I discovered rust under it. One very small hole on the firewall and a 2 quarter size section near the drain hole. Pulled the fender well plastic guard and saw no more rust than what I found. We will prep it and apply POR15 and POR15 patch. That should take care of it. I'll check under master cylinder tomorrow and POR15 the area no matter what. That will take care of any future brake fluid leaks. Worked on installing the 65 Mustangs new AC system. They figure about 8-10 hours to do it. No way. Certain bolts not included. So far, 4 trips to the store while doing the job. I figure another 2 days. And he broke one of his hood hinges. Its been ordered So the day was pretty frustrating and productive at the same time. At least until I broke the 300TD's neutral safety switch. Dave

yes, the switch should be able to be bypassed by wiring...
Dave, I thought I was the only one with days like that... mine are more varied.... I can have Tractors, walking tractors, riding mowers, cars, disc harrows, brush hogs all broken at the same time..... not to mention cars and pickup trucks... You want to come to my place .... just to work on DIFFERENT objects for a while ? Sometimes someone else's problems are more interesting than those you have been working on.... |

If you broke the neutral switch on the transmission, I have one that you can wire in...However, you'll need to scavenge the end that's inside the car from the one you already have. Let me know if you want it... If you want to bypass the switch, look for a square connector with two violet wires, that plugs into a socket just above and to the right of the throttle. I cannot remember if you have to pull the hump pretty panel to get to it or not....anyway, that's where the neutral/park saftey switch wiring from the tranny connects to the car circuits. Jumper the purple wires together and you're good to go. The attached picture is of the neutral/park harness from the transmission entering the cabin. Here's a better pic.
