it sounds harder than it really is.... the hardest part was running an extra wire to the battery. these new cd players need two sources of power and my old 240d only provides one source. there is a perfect place to run a wire into the engine compartment to acess the battery. if you look under the passanger dashboard you will see a rubber stopper that has wires going through it. that is the place that you will want to run the wire through and it comes out right next to the battery terminal.

the radio in itself is so much better than the stock. you actually get a remote so you never really take your eyes off the road. you will never get "jammed" fingers by trying to change the stations on the OEM stereo.

if you have any questions just let me know

Nice unit-looks good.

I had a CD player put in my 300 at Best Buy. The tech guy said older MB cars are difficult to install these units in. After the install, it was impossible for him to gt the passenger side dash speaker to work, as the whole system went silent once this speaker was connected.

I'm sure it was the tech guy and his lack of familiarity with the older MB electrics, but I really don't care. The speakers are still stock so we're not talking great sound. When I get new speakers I'll have it figured out.

The tech guy probably didn't know about the
rotary fader switch mouted in the center console.
And if he did, he most likely didn't want to mess with
it.

I would never take my car to best buy or the likes
to work on my stereo.
I try to do most of it myself and if I can't then I'd
be more than happy to pay a little more for a proper
stereo install shop to do the work.
Key is,as with an indy repairshop, to do some checking
before you bring it in.
This way you're sure to have a capable and honest
shop do the work.

Louis.

This is the FIRST thing you should do to a car that is otherwise driveable. ESPECIALLY if you get stuck on windy roads behind slow senile drivers who won't let you by so you can drive like the wind.

When this happens, just put in a CD of Mozart's horn concertos and relax. The trip will be over before you want it to be.

A moron at Best Buy blew my amp installing the unit and refused to take responsibility. Took it to HHGregg.. there was a guy there that says he knows w126's since he once cracked the wood... and promised never to do a screw up like that again. Anyways... he bypassed all the amp with direct connections to each speaker. sounds better than it used to.

Older cars really need new speaker wire from the start with a modern head unit. You can make it work without, but it's just a good idea cheap as quality wire is. I have a pretty good kenwood with satalite radio in my 300D.

Looks like the DEH 4600 Piomeer I am planning to put in my 240D. The 4600 will play MP3 CD's which is a lot of music play time, if memory serves me about 8hrs worth of music.
