You know...I'd love to have a LWB w126, and I'm too cheap for one of the gassers. I have a w116 SD. It's got some rust, but it's still a beautiful car. I'm sure your looking for a w126 SD though.
Thanks
David

The w116's are beautiful, but they scare me a little with parts cost. And I'm really, really trying to stay from any serious rust. A lot of things I am, but not a body man..

way to open the trunk

You can cut the master key at a MBZ dealer for $25. This is a better way than forcing open the trunk.

I only have the valet key.
The trunk is locked, vacuum servo in trunk is non functional.
Get the picture?

Thoughts on how to get into the trunk?

Just go down to the stealer with a registration and a driver's license and he will get you the ignition key within a day or so. The cost is $40.00. Probably better than breaking into the trunk

If you don't want to get another key, the best and cheapest way out is to bust the LEFT tail light and access the latch from the hole...quick and easy too.

That couldn't be cheaper than buying another key.

Would it work to file the valet key head a little so it would fit deeper?

Tail lights for 126's and 123's can be had for $15.00 to $20.00, they are very easy to find cheap.

He's got a point. And I have no title, thus no registration, so no master key from MB untill later, if there was going to be a later. I bet I have tail lights at work too...

I'd just have a locksmith open it for ya, or just take the back of the backseat off... there easy, 3 bolts and lift. I spent more time looking for a socket for the 3 bolts, than it did to pop the back seat off, and while your in there might want to install new shocks... just a thought.

These are power reclining rear seats, I suspect there a little more involved to remove. And isnt the fuel tank still in the way then?

Wow... sad to see, but... i've seen a fair condition W124 300D at a junkyard. I would offer you my newly acquired 82 300SD if we were closer (i'm on the west coast ). But I am considering selling my 87 300D and keeping the 82 300SD. As much as i love the W124, its a PITA. The radiator mount is a particular problem as a small incident leaves me grinding the radiator with the fan under hard braking. The sunroof is nice, but its a double edge sword, once it goes, it goes horribly wrong. I love W124s but i think its not for me. Perhaps a SDL would address me better. Who knows, and I think i completely took this thread off topic... Good game.

Whole car is sold pending payment.
One more saved..

I'll let the buyer speak up if he wants. I'm glad it's going to someone that will care for it. She's been a real survivor.

Just a thought...good luck!
That is what I have on my '84 SD. Should be there on the SDL on driver's side.

I'm glad to see this car saved from the crusher!! I'd imagine my old 300SDL has around 335,000 miles on it now.. original head too.
