"Bottom of Injector Pump"

I think your claim is without technical merit. In our injection pumps, the "bottom end" is lubricated by engine oil, right? So, how exactly does a fuel additive influence "crud" down there?

But, with that said, I've never experienced a "oh my gawd" effect from the stuff either.

not what i meant

Sorry that’s not what I meant I should be clearer. One I have no TSB stating that DP is bad. Of course who puts out TSb's that snake oil is bad if it was good it would already been added to your fuel and California would be banning it from our fuel. Almost all products that claim that by adding them to your fuel, oil ECT will give you increased mileage performance ECT are a way for people to separate you from your money. Some will lend an air of legitimacy to them by saying prove they don’t work, give me data from the auto maker that says there bad. Well that’s not the way it works prove it works with something other than testimonials. Or are we talking about using it in a way that not even the manufacturer recommends as I last recall the directions are empty contents into fuel tank. And By bottom I meant the bottom of the fuel vessel the part of the IP that actually holds fuel each part of the delivery system that is lowest and where fuel puddles when the system is or is not in use.

I've known quite a few people who have used DP through the years and have never heard of one instance where "crud" got loosened up and plugged a system.

Cheers,
Wes

I was told by a guy that seemed to know his stuff at a diesel IP shop, that specalizes in Bosch. He knew what Diesel Purge was and said to never use it. He said on older pumps it would stir up all the crap and clog the little screens in the injectors. He said if you have a problem fix it right don't mess with snake oils. I know a lot of you guys swear by this stuff, but this guy rebuilds and tunes IP, and injectors for a living.

Hatterasguy, What is his name and contact information ?
How do you account for the lack of first hand reports of any problems directly after using DP ?
My Haynes Fuel Injection manual for the years 1986 to 1995 says to use injector cleaners on a regular basis.

I worderd my post wrong my dad went to the shop and was talking to the guy, I was in school. I'll post the info if you want it when I get it. But he has a point, he is not the only one, a few other diesel mechanics have said this to me.

What are their names and contact info ?
Let's write them and ask them if they were talking about our particular machines, what exactly happened , how they determined it was the DP which caused it, Did they mean all injector cleaners or just DP ?, how they fixed it what it caused .... etc..

in my experience, one of my injectors was making a tapping noise, people on this forum told me it was the lifters, and they may still be right, but when i put my finger on the fuel line going to that injector, i could feel it throbbing significantly harder than the others. when i used the LM Diesel Purge, it stopped a few miles later. the engine also seemed alot quieter.

and if i remember correctly, the performance products catalogue mentions that it is recommended by MBUSA, and it doesnt say that about any of the other LM products so im pretty sure they didnt just make that up, or they would have said that about a bunch of stuff.

you guys seem to be taking this very personally though. maybe its just me, but has anybody else noticed that we have never come to a consensus on any of the topics we discuss on this forum? maybe you havent, but trust me, that is the case. There are lots of very qualified people with completely different opinions on stuff like this, and none of them are necessarily wrong. if you want to have a debate over this, thats great, but throwing together a bunch of opinions is not a debate. its just not productive to say stuff like "i know a guy, who knows a guy, who has this cousin in Germany who says DP SUX!!"

i doubt you will find anybody who wont agree that cleaning the injectors by hand is best. but if some people dont have the time or dont want to put in the time to do it that way, and there is a product that achieves the results they are looking for, more power to them.

by the way, my car is DEFINATELY faster after i wash it!

your selling me on the product

Your selling me on the product show me a factory document of any kind that suggest you do it on a W123 and if you find one you think it was the intent of the document that it have its first cleaning using the feed DP directly from the can. In stead of the pour the can in gas tank method of using BP. How about a scientific study even if it is done by the manufactures instead of useless testimonials. Using BP straight into the IP It is your money and time if you damage the IP or an injector. Just imagine how small of a mineral deposit it would take to scratch an injectors surface, I have to agree the proper method of using DP in the fuel tank is almost certainly harmless to the system. But Except in California where we ban any thing that is good for diesel and now diesel’s themselves have been banned for new diesel cars. They put cleaners in at the refineries. But it is a personal choice to add it to the fuel tank. people still buy tons of slick 50 and swear by it.

By golly, Mattdave, its your car and if you don't want to put DP in it, don't!

I don't use DP in my current car and never have. I add from 3 to 6 oz of Redline Diesel Catalyst every time I fill it and I feel I don't need DP. I used DP in another 300D though, because the PO didn't keep the injectors clean. It worked great.

We're not going to reach consensus on this issue here on the forum and that's probably good. We're all passionate about the care of our cars, but we don't all do it the same way.

Cheers,
Wes

Performance is located in Sunnyvale. They r on the other side of 101 from the San Jose Airport.

Take 101 South

Exit De La Cruz - don't exit first right but go under the overpass and exit right (going east)

L - at first light - believe it or not it is also called De La Cruz!

They r located in the 500 block of offices on the left - Unit 13

Call the number posted and they can give u pretty good directions.
