602 CYL HEAD INFO
I AM REPLACING A 602 CYL HEAD AFTER HAVING IT STRAIGHTENED AND MILLED. DO I NEED A SPECIAL THICKNESS HEAD GASKET AFTER HAVING THE HEAD MILLED? I BELIEVE I KNOW HOW TO TIME THE CAM AND CRANKSHAFT, BUT I NEED TO KNOW HOW THE BEST WAY TO CHECK TIMING BETWEEN THE INJECTION PUMP AND THE CRANKSHAFT.

I could be wrong, but I dont think you are supposed to mill those heads. I would do some checking before mounting and possibly killing the whole engine.

Benzmac,
The head was actually straightened then milled a few thou. The camshaft bearings are straight. Is it the camshaft bearing alignment that concerns you, or is it valve to piston clearance or such? The fellow who did the machine work is very well thought of, trusted, and recommended, and has done scads of Mercedes heads. Glad to hear your crankin' out work with, or rather faster than the best of 'em.
