My temps too low?

I've only had my car a few weeks, but I've noticed the coolant temp never rises above 80C on the gauge, regardless of driving conditions (idling, highway, or city streets). And this is with weather in the mid to high 90s lately during the day in my area.

I've read these motors don't run well if they're too cool. Am I having a problem or are these temps normal?

hello,
your correct, diesel's don't run well running to cool. I think first I'd check the temp. sender, and go from there. mine idling rides about the middle of the eight, and running around & normal freeway driving moves up to the top of the eight, and pulling long hills I see the first mark pasted 80, or when I use the smoke option acompanied with ye turbo.
A nice benny of diesel is they like it nice an warm when running down the road, and when sitting at a stop, usually cool down 10-20 degress when your not working the engine.
After figuring out the C thing, used to ferenhit, my seems happy at 195 degrees running down the road/180 degresses while idling

Thx for the feedback. My temp needle has never risen above the 80 degree mark. In fact, it's usually just below that, so it sounds like I'm running quite a bit cooler than you, assuming my gauge is working right. Good tip to check the sender. I'll try that.
