OM617 T3 Turbo, Anyone rebuild one of these?

My '83 300DT has a 1980 SD turbo engine, 617.950. The turbo has been seeping a little and the boost needs to be adjusted...

I have a donor T3 Garrett turbo from a 617.952, same turbo as the SD but the bearings are worn on the donor. What I am considering is to rebuild my spare turbo, up the boost a few turns then put it in the car..

I have seen rebuild kits for about $100 and turbo cartridges for $350. I have torn down the donor turbo and it looks like a piece of cake to r&r the bearings and seals but Iam concerned about balance after it is put back together...

Thoughts please......

get a ball bearing center cartrige if you can, costs a lot more but spools up a LOT faster. More off the line get up and go.....
