PPI for 350
Is it worth requesting an extensive PPI for a 603.97? I'm thinking of something like pulling the prechambers to measure piston height at TDC. Should be a good indicator of bent rods, right?
I'm not thinking of a particular 350. I haven't seen one for sale anywhere near me :( Sixto 95 S420 87 300SDL |
sixto,
A compression test involving dry and wet tests as well as a leakdown test will tell you most of what you need to know. Unless the rods bent as the engine was shut down at the PPI site, there will be a significant loss of compression in one or more cylinders if there is one or more bent rods. A good compression test is a great check of any automobile engine before buying. Means more than the unquantified blow by checks and most other checks with regard to the actual health of the machine. There have been debates on what it actually means, like where precisely the problem might be and what you need to do to fix it. But when you are buying a car, any problem that requires the head to come off is one that should give pause to actually buying the car. Of course there are circumstances and at least with a compression assessment you know the head is coming off or not. Good luck, Jim |
