Sounds like you caught up on a lot of missed service. I had to do what I thought was quite a bit, but not as much as you have done. I haven't done anything cosmetically, except to restain rear shelf, paint the speaker cover's, and first aid kit.

It appears I have gotten hold of a reliable daily diriver with a solid body and no rust anywhere on the car. I am trying to decide if I want to leave as is, or do a complete make-over.

Most of this is from the PO. I guess I lucked out when I found my SD.

Some of those items could have gone without doing immediately.

I too, have done quite a bit to my SDL as I am very anal about cars and would like for them to be as perfect as possible.

Pretty time and $$$ consuming. Hopefully, you and I will have near perfect SDL's when we're thru....soon I hope.

Hi hatterasguy,
after looking at your list, your ready for another 200k. never hurts to replace all those hoses. I'm in oldnavy's boat here, stumbled into a mb that has been well taked care of, got its service records for its first 15-16 years. the last 5-6 years it seems to have sat in the garage, while they drove the hubby's bmw.

Plantman I wish I could have waited but everything I did was because it was completly worn out. The PO timed it perfectly, the tires were bald the battery was shot etc. But it has been fun and my car is slowly getting their. I'm about 1/2 threw restoring her, next I need to work on some cosmetic things. Some of you guys got lucky and found some really well cared for examples. Diablo-Diesel, yours looks real nice!

Plantman if you havn't already, check your oil cooler lines. The fittings on the lines that screw into the cooler were badly rusted, on my car. Also the cooler was full of sand. Yours was a northern car for awhile if I remember correctly.

VW next ones coming from that owner!
