Any classes offered on BASIC Diesel Maintenance?
Hi,
Now that I've got my beloved car (300D named cupcake) down here (LA). I need to A. Find a good mechanic, and B. Thought I take a class on how to do basic maintenace. When I bought the car in SF the guy showed me how to change the oil, I wouldn't trust myself to do it at this point. Does anyone know where there is or are inexpensive classes offered for 300D maintenance? Thanks, Lindajane |

LindaJane,
I have found that if I read as much as I possibly can here in the diesel discussion....I'm gonna find all the training I really need. The folks on this board are very quick to offer assistance and will even show pictures to help. Find what you want by doing a search using keywords...such as "fuel filter change" or just Fuel Filter. If you can't find anything that way, then post a new message like you did....I think you'll get a lot of responses. Can't help you with a good mechanic, but I bet someone else can... Fuzz

Recommendation
I'd pick up a Haynes manual on the W123 series diesels if you are interested in basic maintenance. Reading it and following it is pretty easy when it comes to basic maintenance issues. I think it would be perfect to learn from. The first chapter is all about maintenance. However, once you get into repairs, etc. it might become harder to follow as you may not always understand what parts they're talking about, etc.

What a dream....to date a guy who knows how to work on a car.....
I kind of like the hands-on approach of a class...seeing it done correctly. But the manual suggestions are great, will try that.
There will probably be an emergency post...HELP!!!...I thought I followed the manual and my car is in pieces on the floor, what do i do?? LindaJane |

Pack up your stuff and move to Elgin, TX. I know a mechanic there who is single and available.
Kidding aside, didn't you already get a recommendation for Enrique at Mr. MB Motors? I thought he was within a reasonable distance. And change the location in your profile. You're still showing S.F.

I dunno about LA, but the city college here in SB offers an auto maintenance class (costs 60 bucks or so for 4 mornings a week for 6 weeks, I think). You might be able to find something similar down where you are. I doubt you'll find anything diesel-specific, but once you have a good basic grounding in general auto maintenance and theory, understanding the copious amounts of diesel-specific info on this board should be fairly simple :-).
