W123 Woodwork needed
I am trying to find woodwork for my wife's W123 300D (Josephine). I found some at a wreckers but they want Aus$150 for just the console piece around the gear shifter. AMore $$$ for the heater controls, the Switch panel and the Dash strips. A good ashtray will cost me $200 or so,
Is there a member of this forum who can locate good woodwork and post them to me in Oz? This car has electric windows and manual heater controls. I would be happy to pay a reasonable amount for them, but there are only 2 wreckers here who have W123's and they both charge like wounded bulls. Please PM me with photos of woodwork and a price. I will work out the method of payment and transport with you later.

I have some wood I've collected from the yards, but it would help if you could post pics of what you need or are trying to replace so we all know exactly what you're looking for (the manual heat controls had a few different configurations.)

You could try eBay, there's always some wood trim to be found there.

This is my console panel, but hers needs to be set up for electric windows, emergency flasher and may also have remote mirror control, but not necessary as manual mirror is installed, even though mirror control is in her console.
I could use a better console wood too (exactly like photo). She does not need the Ashtray as I have put a gauge panel there on mine and Mrs can have my removed ashtray. Shifter woodden knob would be a bonus. Thanks for your help. Tony Last edited by TonyFromWestOz; 06-24-2004 at 01:57 AM. |

Oh man, no way here.
The center (heater control) may be in some cars here (there's a TD I service often that is a euro and has that panel, but it is warped to h**l and cracked and THEY are looking for another panel for it.) The rest of the panels are probably all but un-obtainable here in the US, but the euro members should be able to get a line on these? Good luck. For the shifter panel, you might just send it off for re-finishing?

Think an AMG spoiler for my 300D would make it go faster??? The wood is gorgeous, but there's probably a good reason that no prices are shown.

the MB wood is just plain expensive in my experience.
My wood around my shifter isnt bad, but it is a bit warped and starting to crack... Well the MB wood refinishers want US$100 to refinish it! JMH

Hey there is a lot of really cool stuff on that Australian web site. I was wondering if anybody has any idea of an American web site that is even remotely like that one. Please post if you know any. much appreciated.

Can't help you with an American counterpart, but here's one in Europe that does list prices:

Why not make new ones yourself?
Are the trim pieces solid wood, or bent ply w/ veneer? I see no reason why new ones can't easily be made by anyone with a woodshop. I think some 1/4" bent ply(for the console) w/ some nice figured walnut veneer and clearcoat would look schpankity. Use your old piece to map out the switch holes and scroll saw 'em out real good. Or you could remap the switch holes in whatever configuration you desire. Solid wood for the dash strips, although not as dimensionally stable as ply. Not really all that fond of the zebra or whatever they put in there from the factory anyway. Looks generic.
How are the dash strips affixed to the dash? With some adhesive? Mine look uber ghetto as the PO thought that the best answer for them separating from the dash was to use screws. They're still peeling off.
