Injector question?
 

I plan to replace all of my injectors in my 603. I know that they have to be matched. When one orders new injectors, do they automatically come as a matched set, or do you have to specify?

I will likely be buying them online.

Also, one of my yellow fog lamp bulbs blew, can I buy just the bulb or do I have to buy the reflector also? Where is a source?:confused:

You can replace just the injectors that are bad. In fact there's little point in doing more than that. It's a good idea to take the set to be balanced or matched or whatever they do even with a set of new injectors.

The fog light uses a plain H3 bulb. The yellow tint is part of the lens.

I just ordered 6 from Fastlane and screwed them in. It seems to run and idle fine. I'll be pulling them to get them tested for a skipping problem I'm trying to track down. Then we will see how good they are out of the box.

My car dropped from 31.5 mpg to 24 mpg and it started to nail louder so I ran diesel purge full strength, enough to fill the secondary filter and on into the injectors and let it sit for a while. When I started it, it ran real smooth and all but one of the injectors stopped nailing.

I decided to clean and install my other set of injectors off the old 603 and the car had more power but was louder.

I read a post where new injectors where installed and the guy said he had never thought his engine could run so quiet and have so much more power.

When I put new injectors in my SDL, I noticed the opposite with the noise level. The car's idle was very even but there was a much more pronounced "diesel sound?". Smoother delivery of power was noticed as well.

I asked around about the noise and was told the new injectors had stronger mechanisms and a better control over the pulses of fuel causing the harsher sound.

All in all, I think it was money well spent.

Take your injectors to a diesel injector shop and have them 'popped'. They will do it for free, usually. This will tell you which ones are good. The shop might be able to over haul them and save you a few bucks. Plus you can bargin with the for a good price.
