I'm trying to locate the engine ID number on my recently aquired '82 300sd so I can order some alternator belts , but the thing has eluded me so far.

Where exactly on the engine is it supposed to be. ( I've seen the vague pictures in the online manual, but I'm not finding anything in that general location with numbers that look like the engine numbers listed for ordering the belts)
