Shock absorbers
The car ia 240D 77, the place Houston. Up until now I have used Bilstein shock absorbers, mine are getting a little soft, or shall I say can not take the Houston pavements anymore. Someone recommended the Japanese KYB Gas-A Just shock absobers, I am told that these are much stiffer than the Bilstein and are better suited for driving on Houston roads.
Any comments or experience on this brand of shock absorbers? Thanks, Vahe |

I have heard that "KYB" means, "Keep Your Bilsteins" and I agree. I would splurge and get the Bilstein Heavy Duty shocks. They cost a bit more, but well worth it, IMHO.

Are you saying that Bilstein's are available in two grades, regular and also in heavy duty versions? Vahe |

Bilsteins are available in THREE versions: custom, HD and sport. The sport shocks require lowered sport springs.
HD Bilsteins are available for $75-$100 each: check around for the best prices. I think the HD's make the cap handle better. I think I'd stick with the Bilsteins.

Are most oem MB shocks the same or are they different for 123, 126 etc? Wondering about plundering the parts cars again.

I just installed Bilsteins from Performance Products, they told me first it where the "comforts" and later that it where the "sports", better shocks according to them.
Are they not the right ones for my 300CD, they seem to work fine even that I only notice a small difference with the ones I replaced? They had the same length as the old ones, I'm confused!

Bilsteins Anything else is a waste of money if you plan on keeping the car. RT

I had KYBs on the back of my car and replaced them with Bilstiens. I couldn't believe the difference.
Scott btw, I used regular Bilstiens, not the heavy duty. I really don't know which one is better suited. I would get opinions from people who are familiar with both. I think the regular ones came stock on the car. That's why I chose them.
