Cool In case anyone's been wondering...

Hello!

I know that I haven't posted over here very much as of late. This is for a couple of reasons.

First, my 300D's been running beautifully. Not a lick of trouble; everything's been perfect.

Second...click on this link for details: http://www.geocities.com/wardensproject/

I thought some people might be interested Let me know what you think! (I didn't leave an E-mail or guestbook on the page, so just reply on this thread)

I'm still trying to figure out how I did that. The pictures aren't that big (the entire site only takes up 1.5MB), and the combined hit count for the entire page is 43 according to Geocities.

The good news is that access should be restored in an hour or so...

*fingers crossed*

FWIW, I think the link's working now.

I'm going to color-code everything (fuel yellow, oil purple, and water blue), and will paint the rest either black or battleship gray.

I don't know how much of the block I'll be able to paint, but we'll see...probably have to get a can of brush paint for that (I'm spray-painting everything else)...

Still says exceeded your bandwidth allocation, at least it does for me.
Do I recall that you wrote earlier that this project began after an Autolite glow plug broke up and wrecked your engine?

That's odd, 'cause it works here...

The glow plug tip didn't happen on my truck. If it did, I would have pulled the engine, and would be doing a total rebuild. I'm "just" goign through the top and front end. I was getting a woofing sound out of the intake, which on this engine typically means that a lifter's bad...and lifters tend to take the cam along with them when they fail. The timing gear cover was also damaged, so that's being replaced. I pulled the cylinder heads 'cause, once I could get to the lifters, they were so easy to get to...and I'm adding a turbo, so stronger head gaskets are a really good idea.

Okay, that does it...%$@#& Geocities $*%&!@

I just re-uploaded the page to this URL: http://home.earthlink.net/~calicosmith/truck/index.htm

I don't think that Earthlink has a bandwidth allocation limit, so this should work.

If it doesn't, I'm going to go on a homicidal rampage.

The Warden,

I checked it out last night or early this morning and it worked fine for the most part. Looks like a great project. Keep us updated, or your site updated, and we can check back. Thanks for sharing the experience, Jim

Warden,
Nice project! I am in a similar state. Trying to keep an old truck running and running well. Dunno about the color-coding thing though.... Kinda looks like a kid got loose under the hood with a box o' Crayolas..... RT

How heavy are Ford Diesel heads? I replaced a 460 head on my own. And you've seen what non-entities my arms are.

Jim and everyone else, thanks The site will be updated as I get more film developed. I'm currently at the point where I'm cleaning things up; all of the gasket surfaces are clean, as are the piston tops. I'll be ready to paint before too long, and the heads are close to being ready to go back on (have to re-do the valve stem seals, paint the heads, and get new bolts {the old bolts are torque-to-yield}).

RT, I hear you. I've seen color-coding on boats, and it looks nice if done right. If you don't do it right, though, you're right, it can look bad.

Sixto, I've actually never pulled a head on a gas engine, so I don't know how heavy they are. The 6.9l head's bloody heavy, though; compounded by the fact that the heads are easiest to remove with the exhaust manifolds attached (because getting the exhaust manifolds off the heads are next-to-impossible; the engine was built to be maintained in a truck with a tilt hood). Either the entire assembly or just the cylinder head itself (can't remember which) is a bit over 100lbs. Most people who do this job find it necessary to use an engine hoist to pull the head out of the engine compartment. I was fortunate to have a helper (this guy also went through my heads for the cost of parts ) and that pole...we'll see how putting them in goes, eh?
