Many people from this forum told me something and it's untrue...
When I was asking about motor mounts, trans mounts and shock absorber on the engine every one seemed to tell me that my 240D does not have a little shock on the engine. So while doing my motor mount swap I notice that I do have one on the driver side.... Is it supposed to be there or did the previous owner just add one ?
Thanks

One of the problems in trying to work on cars only using the forum... as compared to having all the literature which you can find...and then just using the forum to clear up unclear concepts is that many different variations of many parts are installed in our cars...
Not only do some 240's have shock absorbers on the engine... but some which do not can be retrofitted with them... So I suggest you start on the quest which so many of us have been on for a long time... that of finding a copy of each of the manuals which MB produced for their cars... plus a copy of the shop manual from Haynes.... |

don't get me wrong..... this forum is the only reason I own my MB Diesel. (seriously)....
I just wanted to clear everything up and say that the 240D might actually have a shock absorber on the engine

MB makes/made so many running changes that it can be hard to tell what you have definitely. What adds to the confusion is someone will have a vehicle, in this case say a 240D, without a part on it like this vibration damper, and will then swear up and down "NO NO NO, 240D's NEVER came with a vibration damper" just because THEIRS didn't.....

As smooth as my 240 idle's, it doesn't need a shock. But I did go though the car and replace all the rubber conector's. No flairing shifts, smooth idle, 30 mpg on the road @ 60 mph.
Something else I found when looking around under the hood after I got it home. The oil cooler was full of road grime and I had to clean it at the car wash. I have cleaned the engine several times at the car wash with no problems. But then it doesn't have a bunch of electronic dodads under the hood, unless you count the cruise control. Ooop's forgot to mention the CC doesn't work.

If we knew the year and vin #... anybody with an EPC could tell you if it was added or factory. Later cars had dampeners or conversions. I know my 81' 300d orginally had 1 and was converted with a factory kit to have 2 just like the later turbo models. Mech didn't do the trans mount which should also be upgraded and you need different spacer.
It's all covered in the factory manual quite clearly. Michael
