Synthetic ATF
Car is an 83 W123 300D.
I am planning the change my transmission fliud and would like to try synthetic. What brand and type would be correct for the car. It has 187000 miles on it. It also flares a bit between gears. My 300CD w/synth does not flare and it has about 205K on it. Does the synth help with flaring or is this fully another issue? I'm not converting to synth to fix the flare, I just feel from reading here it's cheap insurance to add a lot more miles to the tranny's life. Thanks for any advise. |

I did a filter and full drain last fall using Amsol. Kind of pricey but the car loves the stuff. On cold mornings when I would be up north it would flair between shifts till it warmed up. After the fluid switch it has never done that even down to 0 last winter in NC.

Mobil 1 atf available at Autozone. Works great. Flairing is generally an adjustment issue. RT
