What are the chances...

of swapping the tranny from and '85 SD into an '82 SD? I know that '85 has year specific "improvements" from previous years but can a swap be done and has anyone ever done this?

Kevin

No

I have never done that one, sounds interesting.
Do you have both vehicles for the swap?

My guess is that the changes are all internal and unless there is a difference in the ele. hook ups that they would interchange...........

Did the '82 have the bowden cable?
My '80 and '82 300Ds don't, but my '84 300D does.
Is there anything different with the vacuum / electrical connections on the cable equipped transmissions?

Been out of town for a few days so...

i haven't been able to check the thread but I do have both cars for the swap and am going to be looking more closely at the scenario. Both cars have the bowden cable.

I read somewhere that the '85 valve body will work in an earlier transmission.
'85 has the updated valving.
