HELP! 1985 300D Front Driver Window Replacement?

Hello everyone! My front driver side window is no longer. I went to shut my door and before I even had a chance to close it the window just shattered all by itself?!?! My question is... how do I replace it? I removed the door liner to clean out all of the glass inside the door. I just don't see how to get a new window in there. Any "quick" suggestions? I'm trying to get home from the holiday weekend.

Cheers!

The mechanism has to come out in two parts in order to remove it without a lot of wrestling and swearing. The motor is held in with three bolts, they face the outside of the car, and are on the far side of the mechanism, you can't see them, you will have to feel for them. They should be about a 10mm head.
If I remember, the other trick is that the mechanism has to be in the down position in order to clear everything on the way out.
I don't remember it being too bad if you have these two parts licked. -Andy

Question

How did that happen? Is this common? Is it air pressure differential that does it? I have heard of people's sunroofs getting sucked out on the freeway. Somebody explain this to me.
Will the same thing happen to me?

I have no idea how it happened. I got out of my car and when I went to close it... BAM!! It just shattered into a million pieces and fell inside the door frame. My rear windshield blew on me too a couple of years ago. I think some of the grid lines for the defroster were scracthed which in turn sent more power to the other lines... thereby causing a big thermal stress in a certain spot. It scared the hell out of me when it went.

In other news.. I took all the seals/molding off around the door and was able to get the metal channel out that the bottom of the window sits in. Will I be able to just slide a new one in there?

Yes, you just slide the new window in from the top. Easy as can be .
