OK - this might be the cleanest engine *in* a car...

Hatterasguy 07-09-2004 02:49 PM

I don't know if I'd call that car "Junky". It looks pretty nice, I love the owner never drove it but the odo is broken!:D Yeah he only put 50k a year on it.

Jetmugg 07-09-2004 05:11 PM

Paint discrepancies???

Should the under-hood color be red as shown in the photos? And red door jambs also? Something just doesn't look right to me.

Jetmugg.

This is posted in the listing:

Quote:

The car is origanally burgandy.

======================================

It does seem odd that the owner would
invest $12700 in the engine and another
couple of $ thousand in the tranny but not
fix the odometer which would probably
be only a few $ hundred.

Louis.

It is listed at the top as a 300TD.
Then later in the ad he said the owner put it in a 'junk' 300se.

?????????????????????????????

fj bertrand 07-09-2004 10:06 PM

bizarre radio knobs.

jbaj007 07-09-2004 10:11 PM

The engine bay is red, so that part is right.(he said it was repainted)

Didn't the 300SE come out in 1988 and have the new style console window switches? This has the older style like the 300SD, 1981-1985.

Seats are new style leather pattern, though ?

Old style headlights.

Odd ball, whatever the true story.

Those rims with the Michelins on them, don't belong with the car either...but that's less of an offense than the guy spending all that money, and then using a non MB Radiator cap....ruins the whole thing. :D

speedy300Dturbo 07-09-2004 11:06 PM

Those seats are not original MB covers. The new style would have a leather seatback pocket. Looks like someone wrapped up the old seats in new vinyl.

mudduck 07-10-2004 07:20 AM

Yeah there maybe lots wrong with the car...but look at the catagory...He's not claiming that its a creampuff...he's selling parts...for $1200 and change thats a lot of parts...and that engine is CLEAN...compared to mine anyway...but I'm just getting started on mine...

ForcedInduction 07-10-2004 05:17 PM

It has the bad SAE fuel hose, not the correct cigar hose.
Cruise actuator is not connected.

Minor details, but it adds up...

300SDog 07-10-2004 10:21 PM

Repo/ PoliceAuction drug dealer's or formerly stolen car is my guess..... or maybe the guy just didnt pay for the engine so the mechanic seized it and it ended up with "autodealerbrokers-com" ....... an obvious horse-trader who can certainly produce the engine receipts, eh?

Hell I live about 150 miles from Nashville and if *anybody* on this board wants accurate birds-eye opinion on this car, here are my terms: I will drive there in my 240D and check it out at cost to you of one tank of fuel plus food expenses and 1/2 gallon of my favorite whiskey - or $65 all inclusive.

Hatterasguy 07-11-2004 09:05 AM

It looks like a 300SD that was repainted, it looks like it was red. The rims are just the newer 8 hole style, a common upgrade. The radio is aftermarket common and not a bad thing. The seats look like they were recoverd their not MB, although they look ok the original syle seats would look better. At the price that it is going for if the engine and trans really is two years old, someone will get a deal. This might be worth looking into.
