synthetic tranny fluid?

is this really all that much better? does it really make it shift smoother? i dont mean to start an oil thread but i dont fully understand if its better or not. any info would be appreciated.

Yes it makes it shift smoother. Especially when the tranny is cold. Synthetic also stands up to heat better, leaving less varnish and deposits to gunk your tranny up. Considering the modest cost and relatively infrequent change interval its a bargain. RT

I can't tell you which brand is best, but I put Mobil 1 Synthetic in both my cars. It seems to make shifting a bit smoother. Since Transmission fluid doesn't have to deal with the heat of combustion, it lasts a lot longer. If it kept the transmission going for another 10K miles, it would certainly be worth the difference in price, which is about $3.50 per quart.

I used the dino-based tranny juice for years in our '83 and '85 300CD-Ts and switched both to synthetic about one year ago. I can honestly say that I have not detected much of a difference in shifting. As for wear, I can't really say

im thinking about doing the change next time i do the filter. so i will be putting Mobil 1 Synthetic in it. thanks for the info.
