ac bracket
 

Hello,
I have had to take the ac compressor bracket off of my '75 240d while doing work on the head. The lower corner where the bottom water pump bolt is had broken off. When I went to put the bracket back on it wouldn't line up all the bolts on the front were down and left about half an inch. It seems like the whole thing is sprung which might be why the bottom corner was broken. Anybody ever seen this? I messed around with this for hours and can't figure out any other cause for the bolts not lining up. I guess I'll have to take the compressor off for now. Is there a decent way to retrofit a rotary compressor?

Depends on your definition of " decent" ... assume you are not using Bill Clinton's definition...

Do you have the york type compressor mounted high/front of the passenger side of the engine ?

If your analysis of what you have is correct then the fix and the change over to rotary should be about the same amount of work... but would be worth it if you have the york type or the Delco pancake type....

I am assuming you have the York type... it is prone to vibration and takes TOO much hp to run....

I can post a picture of how simple a rotary replacement CAN be for a 74 280... I have one in my parts car...

Hello,
The compressor is the York mounted high passenger side. I'm leaning toward a retrofit. I don't know how I could go about fixing that monstrous bracket. I'd love to see pictures of a retrofit. The engine is so easy to work on except for that horrible setup for the ac.

Ok,,,will take camera up front and get picture... they put a Sanden on it I think....very simple compared to the York.... your mount had to be big and strong... due to the York weight...
A normal swashplate type will use a lot less horsepower.. something I assume which I assume you don't have too much spare... LOL

I have a 240 also....

If you add one more element you can swing it some to adjust... or you could make a non attached element to tighten the belt independantly.... an idler wheel....
