most and least money on repair?

How much have you spent on repairs to your MB?

Single repairs = sticker shock price, high and low.

Total repairs = up to date total.

This may be scary for some new owners.
Remain calm, many exceptions will appear here.

Most I've spent on a single repair was $329.01 when I did all four brakes, the front wheel bearings, and the upper control arn bushings.

I've poured a total of $2891.73 into the car, with $701.75 of that being in maintenance...meaning that I've paid $.09 per mile to drive the car.

I recentely went through the receipts on a one-owner 300SD that I just bought. Most were indys, some dealer.

$1400 to rebuild the vacuum lock system.
$2500 for Mercedes rebuilt trans.
$1000 for radiator, water pump, and fan clutch
$1300 for AC compressor, hoses and freon.
$1700 for brakes including calipers
$850 for 2 (!) window regulators
$550 for new alternator

Many more over a thousand.

No wonder people think Mercedes are so expensive.

I saw his loan papers too. The car cost $38,000 and his payments were $1450/month. In 1981!

I repaired the cruise control on the same car (est was $900 at the POs indy) for nada. Resoldered all joints except IC's and compared to a known good one for solder bridges. Works perfect.

Most expensive single repair was $2200 for a broken timing chain on a 1986 190E 2.3.

Most expensive collectively was $8,000 over 40,000 miles from 1997 to 1999 in a 1987 300E.

Least expensive was odometer repair in my 240D. Did it myself for free.

Bought the car in Feb. 04 with about 298,000 on the meter--now have 308,000 and so far:

Guide rod mounts--$150.00 parts, labor mine;
Tie rods, center link, steering dampner and idle rod kit--$126.00 parts, labor mine;
Rear window seal--parts and labor--$250.00 parts and labor (don't ask for my opinion on that one);
Replace rusted front driver side door--$50.00 salvage yard part, labor mine
Replace wood trim--$5.00 salvage yard part, labor mine
Oil cooler hoses--$210.00 parts, labor mine
Oil cooler (lower aluminum fitting fused to hose fitting and ruined)--$50.00 salvage yard part, labor mine.

Most of these items are long term replacements. I plan to replace one other rusted door with salvage yard door (the ones I have match original color but the !@#$%^ pin stripe is 3/4" off). Other work done falls under routine maintenance and not repairs and is not listed.

Through all this, I have been saving at least $100.00 per week not driving my gas hog (it is just sittin' in my garage pissing me off every time I pass it).

Lets see most expensive so far: The radiator was $430, the injectors cost me $380, and the brake job I did was like $500. I'll have to add up my records to see what I have spent so far, probably like $3k plus the purchase price.

Ohh I almost forgot about that $631 for oil cooler lines and the cooler itself.

Cheapist fix was the shifter rattle that was driving me crazy, I got the bushing out of my parts car. $0 My clear corners were also free.

Got the trans in the 280SE rebuilt - $1k
Replaced the trans (used), radiator(new, A/C compressor(new), steering linkages,(new) engine(rebuilt),and rotors in the 300D - still shakes so much the ladies had best wear a sports bra.
Replaced the radiator(new), the right cam & lifters, timing chain, subframe mount(drivers side), androtors, on the 420SEL.
Replaced the front rotors, wiring harness(not cheap), ignition module(not cheap at all), steering linkages, and soon the blower motor (wont run at all) and it looks like the S/C compressor is leaking too.

Anybody wanna buy one of these so I can pay for the repairs?
