air compressor oil

I have not been able to find the bottle of oil I bought many years ago specifically for automotive A/C. However, I have a bottle of air compresor oil which says it is mineral oil with a viscosity of 301 Saybolt. It looks identical in size and shape to the other bottle, and I know I'm really asking for it, but is there any chance I can use this oil in my R4 compressor?

"(525 SUS Viscosity) Mineral oil developed for use in General Motors automotive air-conditioning systems. Soon became the industry standard for all automotive manufacturers. Mineral is for use in automotive systems using R-12 refrigerants"

It's $5.00/qt.....splurge.

The difference between 525 and 500 is not enough to count in any of our systems.... I just did not want people thinking was pulling numbers out of the air... or being loose in stating what I had seen published....There are very few things I say in AC threads which are not directly from some reference source....

I have converted York AC compressors to air compressors for use on off-road 4x4s (jeeps and land cruisers) to air tires back up after returning to pavement, to operate ARB air lockers, to run air-tools (requires larger tank). We use the York because the oil is separate from the cylinder. The rotary AC compressors like the R4 require oil in the system, which is bad for use in air compressor.

If I can get a 300D non-turbo "motor" with the York AC compressor mounted to put in my next Land Cruiser project, I will report on the implements I run with that MB.

I'm still trying to figure out where I can bolt a 10,000watt generator.

I think you will have to use all your trunk space for that 10K generator . Be sure and get a diesel powered one , but where are you going to put your 10,000 watt sound system with the trunk full ,how about raising your roof a couple of feet.......

Of course it will be diesel powered.... just mount it inside the trunk.... put a flange on the front input shaft of the third member... with a belt to your generator....
Then when you get to where you want to use it ... just jack up the rear wheels and set your cruise control....

Leathermang , By God thats pure genius It really could be done they sell PTO generators at tractor stores, with the right shaft a few bearings instant power! You could charge batteries while driving and with an ele. motor convert your 126 SD into the first Diesel/Electric car on the block. You could also sell power at primitive campgrounds for big bucks to pay for the parts........
