85 300sd vacuum question

sorry to post a question thats been asked eleventy billion times, but my 300sd just quit shutting off on me yesterday after i replaced a cd player in it...ive checked for any lines that may have come loose under the hood, and found them all to be intact....i was wondering if it is possible i messed something up while installing the radio....do any of the vac lines run back there for the ignition? or could it be just a coincidence that my shutoff valve quit working at the same time?

a few weeks ago it did this, and im not sure if its related....i pulled up to a store and went to shut it off without the a/c on and it kept running...so i got out and shut it off manually...then later that day, the same thing happened without the a/c on...but before i shut it off manually i turned the a/c on high and turned the key...it shut right off....since then, up until yesterday its been fine, with or without the a/c on...now it wont shut off unless i use the manual lever to cut the fuel....will a shutoff valve give sort of a warning that its going bad before it finally bites the dust?

The A/C has a lot of pods up above the radio that are vacuum controlled. These control various air direction flaps. If one of these is leaking or a line got bumped during the radio job, that could affect the vacuum which is also used to shut off the engine.

well, today i took the radio back out and looked around in there as best i could, and didnt find anything out of place....im thinking its probably something under the hood....bad shutoff valve or something along those lines....my door locks are working, i read that sometimes the car not shutting off can be related to the door locks not working.....

i guess my next step is to go ahead and get a mity-vac, if no one has any other suggestions.....can someone tell me where i can buy one, as well as point me in the direction of a thread that sort of outlines how i can test and figure out where my problem is?

Vaccum locks

I just want to clear something up for you so that you wont go crazy with this. The door locks are on an independent vaccumm system that is controlled by a vaccumm/electric motor in the spare wheel well. So do not confuse the door locks with an engine not shutting off. What I would look for in your car (which happened to mine) is that one of the vaccumm diaphrams that control the different air way flaps was cracked and was leaking vaccum like carzy, thus not supplying enough vaccum to the key lock and consequently not shutting off the engine. What I would do if I were you is to check that all your diaphrams are hlding vaccum. Then I would move into the engine compartment. Good Luck!
