What would be the most that I should offer the guy?

I wouldn't offer anything.. I'd RUN away...! Salvage titles are very scary and that car could be one car made out of 2! I've seen salvage or reconstruced cars with paper stuffed in the airbag to make it feel "soft".... very scary stuff! I'd keep looking....

Good advice. I doubt the guy would accept the offer I had in mind anyway.
Yes it was the same car. Interestingly the story I got was they went to Santa Barbara to get the car earlier this year. I met the father, who was the seller, and he told me himself that he only had the car for seven months. The son, whom I talked most of the time, gave me a story that the car was hit when they owned it and he fixed it himself. He didn't know how the totalled brand even got on the title and that he didn't even know about that it was totalled. He tried to blame the fact on his father that he didn't tell him in the first place.
I plan on staying away from that car. Our stories don't add up.
