33 MPG in my 240D

I don't drive it hard just kind of 'grandpa' around. Don't get me wrong, I do 'drive' it a bit on occasion. Could this kind of mileage be a sign that somethig is wrong or about to 'go'? Mostly country driving with only one traffic light on my 22 mile drive to work.

Surely you jest, "something wrong" with 33 mpg.

My guess is you are driving in the 50 to 60 mph range. The car was EPA rated at 27 overall MPG, so why would you worry?

Oh wait, you are trying to make some here envious. I average 25 in town and got 31 on last short road trip running 60 to 65 mph most of the trip, with a burst of speed to 78 MPH before backing off the throttle. That with an automatic and a/c running.

There is defiantly something drastically wrong with your car. I think the best thing for you too do would be to give it too me and I well dispose of it for you before something catastrophic happens. I will even pick it up where ever you are.

Hay.. thats better than I do with my 5 spd.

Quality of fuel

One thing I have found over the last few years with my VW's is that CETANE level of the fuel makes a big difference in fuel mileage. The difference in my wife's Jetta averages about 4 to 6 MPG when I use AMOCO PowerBlend with CETANE of 50 on average and minium of 48 CETANE and when we use just regular #2 diesel of 40 to 42 CETANE. In the wife's Jetta the car has a topend speed of 110 mph on regular #2, after the second tank of the 50 CETANE PB the car will easily pull 128 mph and speeds are GPS corrected. Most fuel in US is running about 38 to 40 CETANE and it does make a differance in how the car runs. When the 240D was built the average CETANE of US fuel was 50C or better and current W Europe CETANE rating is 52C.

When I switch from PB in the 240D to regular #2 the car smoke a little on start and at night in headlights behind it is noticable, and the same goes for the B2 (2% bio-diesel) but when I run the PowerBlend the smoke disappears, the engine is quiter and and fuel mileage and general performance goes up.

I average 36mpg with daBenz, which is lighter. So you're doing good. Just remember to blast 'er out with a 60-65mpg run once in a while.
