Is that the one with 8900 miles ? I noticed it had a double pin strip along top side seem rather odd..........

Sure does look nice.

But the steering colom cover seems like
someone took some sanding paper to it.

The gauge dials look really dark orange,
almost redish. Not sure this is OK.

Then again I have never seen new dials before
so this might be the way they look.

$25000 seems alot for this car even with the
low mileage.
And yes I know the price is right if someone
is willing to pay it.
But realisticly, the car is 22 years old and it's not
a Ferrarri, Lamborgini, Lotus or a Gullwing for that
matter.

The low mileage can be a bad thing if the hoses,
belts and fluids weren't changed on a regular
basis.
I was taught that letting a car sit was the worst
you could do to it.
Using it now as a daily drive could end up breaking
many parts that aren't used to the extra usage.
This can get expensive!

Louis.

That car did belong to a member here I think. Benz-vettes I think is his handle. That what the guages are supposed to look like, this car is the real deal.

benz-vettes 07-25-2004 11:35 AM

Thats my baby! I finally found it. I should of never sold it in the first place. That was the first mercedes I ever bought.

william rogers 07-25-2004 12:53 PM

benz vette, many of us had cars that escaped and haunt us, looks to me yhat you cater to some purty fancy arn. Better put a very nice one with a star on the hood back in your stable as thats the only way to stop the haunting.........or you could buy it back and get a reversable drill.........

You could have a good friend buy it than after the divorce buy it from him. It is a really nice car but I would feel bad driving it everyday, it is diffinitly to nice for a daily driver.

benz-vettes 07-25-2004 03:07 PM

I wouldnt drive it every day. I would only drive it in summer time and only when gas price are soaring high like this time...

I remember this sold on Ebay about 18 months ago for 22,500. It's an exact copy of my 240(except for the miles). Notice the opening bid is $225,000 so there is either a typo or the seller is just trying to get some action outside of Ebay. Nice car, but too nice to put miles on else the value will plummet. Just my opinion.

Oh yes, this car has been discussed many times . I know to some, this car would be even more valuable if the car wasn't converted to R-134, and left at the R-12:eek:

benz-vettes 07-26-2004 12:04 AM

The current owner wants $25,000. No more no less. I sold it to a guy who lived in one of the Dakotas by Sturgis. He then sold it to this other who I knew. Then he sold it a a buyer he had. Only if I could get this benz for wat I sold it for, I would buy it back

Aint no way, no how I'd say this car is worth $25K. For that kind of money, you might as well do a stem to stern rebuild of a 240D (I'll grant you'd probably have to do a fair bit of it yourself), or whatever else, and have the assurence of all new parts wherever they were needed. Also, why on earth with you mess around with retrofitting a car you believed to be in this price range. I'd also have to agree that sitting is not the best thing for a car. I'd personally just about prefer more miles on a car this age (within reason; something like 30-50,000) with complete maintenance records. All of this is just my opinion, of course, and I do tend to look at cars with an eye to driving them, but I still don't see $25,000 as a realistic figure. If it were a one owner with very good records and all, it'd be closer in my mind, but I still wouldn't personally be willing to spend the money. Rather have a clean driver's 240D with around 100K on the clock and save the $20K for something else.

william rogers 07-26-2004 06:22 PM

I think that the worlds greatest 240's are the one that hit the 500 K milestone with out haveing their head off.granted this one is a pretty baby but sometimes pretty babies turn into brats.............
