OM 617 intercooler and pump adjustments

Just thought I'd post a link to a thread with a little phase one testing I'm doing, not quite up to Martha Stewart standards but it is a start. If your interested and have some time check out the water injection thread there too. I'd post a picture here too but 65kb limit...

I'll be watching this thread closely as I bought the first piece of my intercooler project today. I'll need more fuel as well and can't wait to hear what you find out.

I hope you find a way to get lots of air to the IC. I suppose removing a headlight is out of the question.... I give ya an A for effort though. RT

I hear you about the air. This is just phase one if I get results and my EGT looks high I'll move to a bigger bar and plate cooler under the bumper. First I'm going to do a little duct work and remove the filler panel under the head light and bumper. The stock air filter breaths through a rather small slot between the head light and radiator so we'll see. I think I remember Mauri the flying Finn saying you could max out the fuel without a cooler using the stock plungers in the pump.

Keep up the good work

I will be following this REAL close.

Careful there--IIRC, he said he drove around for a year with the full load screw turned up, no IC, and he eventually destroyed his cylinder head (OM603, presumably with a late model #17-#22 head) during the warmer temps in Summer. Tread carefully, but, since you've set up a pyrometer, and will measure delta-T across the IC, you should have a better understanding of how efficient your particular setup will function. I suspect the cast iron head 617 will be a tad more forgiving than our 603 primadonnas.

Bob sounds interesting. I want to keep my eyes on this too.

Might have to do a comparosin some day on performance of IC and pump changes -vs- LP injection booste and other changes. hmmmmm.
