intercooler question
does anyone think i might run to lean with a IC installed?
You can't run a diesel "too lean". They always run with an excess of air unless overfueled.
100:1 is acceptable idle lambda for diesels. Not sure specifically on MB. For instance if you let your foot off the go pedal it just cuts the fuel, it does not down rate fuel to rpm level to keep lambda at stoich. Go and no Go.
The intercooler will have nothing significant to do with fuel mixture.
As Brian stated, the diesel is a lean-burn engine. Unlike most gasoline engines, there is no throttle in the airflow, it is always treated to as much air as is available. Fuel is increased to increase power (up to a point). |
It will run cooler with an intercooler.
I've read here in this forum that diesels run more efficiently when hot.
The engine runs better hot, but cooler combustion (to a point) is more efficient.
after the IC and 3' exhaust, im going to give it a sniff of propane for hills, spray it right into the turbo fins so it mixes all throught the ic evenly
in time injectors and then entire inframe rebuild for fun:rolleyes4 in end i just want a little more fuel effiency:thumbsup: |
I'm not sure of the combustion temperature of propane, might ignite in the turbo.
You want to do that post turbo... Ever notice how it glows after a good workout?
Pre-turbo might make for some neat fireworks out of the air-filter following an impressive turbine stall.
i agree post turbo. it will not work pre turbo it will simply suck the propane tank dry and kill your engine. propane relys on venturi action to suck the propane out. plus i would never drill into my turbo housing... or anything infront of it. if anything were to fall into the turbo housing it would destroy it very quickly.
Post Turbo? My K&N style Intake has a Fitting for a propane system... Its between the Air filter and the turbo. I dont know if its correct but people are fogging with propane Pre-Turbo
