turbo size

Is the compressor trim of the 617 the same as the 603 or is it a standard T3 which is less? 55 trim for the 3.5L, 50 trim for the 603 and ? for the 617.

I want to replace the bigger turbo I have because it has been a nightmare. First 3 lasted a week each. This one they built is lasting but the wastegate is not working. It must be just a crack open because I can get 20psi but no more. Not that I want anymore but the wastegate actuator does not even have a pressure line to it.

It is a borg warner product. The car does run quite nice but I want everything to function properly and who knows how long this one will last. It is on about 2 months now.

I am taking matters into my own hands and I want to build a kkk or garrett that will match my fuel delivery. I have a custom chip that has maxed out my ip delivery at full throttle. I believe I have 6mm elements compared to the 5.5mm elements in the 603 pump.

I was thinking a T3/T4 hybrid but I am not sure what size compressor wheel and turbine wheel I ought to use?

Also what is a comparable KKK product trim?

I'm confused as to how you're destroying turbos... I destroyed a turbo on my truck by trying to push too much boost but it sounds like you're barely pushing anything. What has been your peak boost with the turbos that died? What "bigger" turbo are you running? On another note, I think you need to re-work your exhaust manifold if you're putting on a bigger turbo because the passages and outlet are too small. Also, is your wastegate rod adjusted tight enough? Is it converted to a pressure setup rather than a vacuum? If it's still vacuum, it won't develop any boost without a line.

Sorry if any of this is repeating knowlege you already know...

IIRC the compressor is 45 trim for the 617 T3. What car is this on?

Thanks for your replies!

This shop built it for me and I thought they knew what they were doing. The first one the nut came off the compressor side (shaft may have broke). Other two beat the bushing until the turbine wheel hit the housing. Problem was they had too small turbine wheel to the compressor side.

They must have got this one right because it is based on a T3/T4 but is a mitsubishi exhaust housing and borg warner compressor housing.

I am using a pressure wastegate with manual boost contoller. Neither are hooked up at the moment but the pressure wastegate is installed with tight pressure on the wastegate.

Peak boost has been 20 psi on my 99 E300 turbodiesel in the signature.

I agree with you on the exhaust manifold. I just need to find someone who will fabricate one. Any thoughts
