cheap Hp!!

I have a 1985 300d turbo. What are some simple inexpensive mods i can do to increase hp. Also what is the appropriate oil press when the motor is at idle? right now the gauge sits on the top edge of 2. Thanks guys

Cold idle oil pressure is 3 bars- hot is 1.5-1.7. Most things in life take three things: time, money and effort. Getting HP out of your engine without $ means you have to spend time and effort. Reading the threads here is the time- wrenching on your car is both time and effort. Nothing is "simple and inexpensive".

what have you done so far?

start with a larger exhaust, 3" will do fine, turbo back if possible, a few others have wrapped their down pipe to keep the heat in

search for a pic of the EGR and plug the line with a small bb- keeps your intake cleaner

new air filter, fuel filters (2), remove the little square on the top of the IP-fuel pump - 2 wrenches under it

psi and pyro -exhaust gas temp gauge, if you dont want to take the exhaust and intake manifold off drill into your down pipe -stop at 1000 degrees max

find a intercooler, anything is better then nothing,

adjust your ip timing to 28 deg

get SD 265 nozzles and pop tested or AAZ VW 2 stage injector bodies from 1.9 td canadian engine with the #265 nozzle

after all that remove the limiter from the IP, turn boost to 14-15 and enjoy the best free? hp? :D

A lager exhaust is a waste of money unless you are moving to an injection pump with larger plungers. The stock 2.5" exhaust is not very restrictive as-is. Wrapping the exhaust, especially the exhaust manifold and/or turbo, is a good way to make it crack.

im going to cut the mufflers out of my system and go with a straight pipe on the sd. basicaly just for the sound

i dont think the muffler creates back pressure , does it?

when my welder is hooked up im going to make my own muffler

The stock exhaust only has about 2psi of backpressure above 3000rpm. The turbo is more restrictive than it.

Where could i find an intercooler and what size would i buy. What is the little square on the top of the IP. What is IP? How much would an intercooler cost. If you guys haven't noticed i'm new to the diesel life. Where would i get sd 265 nozzles. Are they off of a newer diesel mercedes? Are Bosio nozzles good? Thanks for your help guys. What will these mods do to my engine life?

if you are going to run your car hard you should do mods.

mods make the engine run cooler and longer\safer

best bet for a intercooler if a local scrap yard or something local on ebay

ANYthing is better then nothing

little square on the ip is the ALDA, IP= injection pump aka fuel pump
alda reads how much boost there is and give fuel accordingly, keep lines clean untill you remove it, you want to check the line off the back of the intake to the switch over valve then to the alda

when removed you control the fuel with your throttle position, so if you mash it at a stop, black smoke\ unburnt diesel will be blowing out, good for ppl riding ur azz, aka smoke screen :P

make sure all the throttle links are adjusted for full travel, not sloppy

#265 are off of 1987 300sd cars i think, bosio is told to be good but cost too much for that many people to buy them, more of a performance nozzle brand

search for diesel purge and do this before new nozzles

What type of intercooler should i get? Should i get a dual or single mouth intercooler. Should i get a dual or single core? If i took of the alda, can my engine handle the extra boost? Would i need to put a gigantic intercooler to cool the engine a lot if the boost is not controlled?

1985300d 04-22-2008 09:51 AM

the alda only controlls the amount of fuel

by removing , it only let you apply full fuel without full boost

it WONT give you any more top end power, only low end quicker, maby smoke

some reported only a little puff of black at WOT at a stop, black smoke is unburnt wasted fuel \power

the bigger the better for a IC, who ever has the most money wins the race
find or make 1 that covers the entire front of your rad

i decided AC rad wasnt as important as my IC going in, window is free AC

money is hard to come by there days, so truly any IC will work,

how much HP you want ??

right now the IP only puts out enough fuel for 10 psi give or take,
wiht the limiter removed you are good for 14-15psi, and the turbo is at its limit that high,

no dyno runs with the limiter removed,

it is important to get it back to spec the best you can before you do upgrades

So 265s are the way to go for more power?

1985300d 08-15-2008 10:56 PM

they are the best at this time, them with the 2 stage AAZ inj body is the best tested combo at this time

tims1981 08-24-2008 04:59 PM

Cool Thanks!

So removing the ALDA off the Injector pump assembly will squeez a tiny bit more low end on my diesel? If you can please IM me. I would like to know more about doing this.
