I'm not sharing too many details until after I figure out what I'm doing... I think I should call this "Project Borg" - an assimilation of organic and mechanical technology
I will say that I'm currently creating a mockup of the engine bay for clearance testing and I'll be taking the car off the road for a while soon to do some much needed work and to take more detailed measurements...

I'm not going to fool with propane. I want to keep the car somewhat refined and true to it's original character.
I just unpacked this tonight: It's going to take a little work to get it down in there...

So are you planning turbo+supercharger? Why not put the supercharger on the other side of the engine?

From a packaging perspective, everything points to mounting it on the right/passengers side. Once the old turbo and manifold are out there's really a lot of room in there.

No Way!
If you do get it running I'm taking a trip from SC to see this in the flesh |

Anyway, I was messing around with everything tonight to try to make some decisions about mounting. This is the first place I figured it would fit: Turns out with the supercharger in there it's just too tight: So it's going to have to go way back down there: This will end up better because I'll have more room to form the exhaust manifold. Hefty, hefty, hefty! Wimpy, wimpy, wimpy!

Wow Evan ... that turbo is HUGE! Make sure you're careful when you have it running. I'd like to continue seeing you around here.

This thread is starting to give me a hankering for an E300. Eagerly awaiting your progress...

The turbo is probably over 25 lbs. My arms are sore from picking it up and putting it in and out of the compartment. It's nice looking, new, (except for my dirty paw prints on it now...) Came straight from Cummins in South Carolina.
While I was in there replacing the mounts, I also fixed (I hope) the nasty oil leak from the plate on the side of the IP. Just for kicks I switched the key on with the cover off. The fuel control rack snaps to attention nicely and cycles fore and aft when I switch it back off. Great fun! I was really tired of the teeth chattering vibration while idling and I'm looking forward to driving it again. The right mount was squished almost 1" shorter than the new replacement. The left side looked fine but I replaced it anyway and kept the old one for a spare. If my new-found torque tears it in half, I may have to devise some sort of movement limiter. Tonight, I'll drop the exhaust so I have room for final positioning of the turbo. Then it's back to the computer for some CAD work designing the header flange based off measurements from the manifold gasket. I'm probably going to get these guys to fab the new manifold: www.browneracing.com I know it's going to be pretty expensive but I feel like it's critical to get this part right.

I have considered this on the W123. I think the best solution would be a long bolt, a nut and a few big washers.

I wonder if you could use an off-road suspension limiting strap, you can get them in 8-24" lengths and are made from 7000lb. MIL-SPEC nylon webbing with a plate on each end.
http://www.tellico4x4.com/index.php/cPath/91_3390/sort/5a/page/3 Must be a strong enough spot somewhere on the body and engine to bolt it to. Assuming you could keep it away from all those heat sources. I wonder if someone makes a woven stainless strap?
