MW Pump Upgrade

My local bosch approved shop says that they can upgrade the internals of my IP to and I quote "Flow way more fuel than you could ever use" He says he knows of larger plungers that will fit etc...I don't know the names for the parts in an IP so I cannot continue but I am going to stop by there this week sometime and he says he'll explain to me what he can do.

This is an mw pump from a 82 300D

I'd be interested to hear what they could do for an M pump as well... The overall result needs to be streetable as well. Not just installing big fat elements and sending you out the door.

Would be very interested to hear what your results are. Also, what modifications the shop plans to do, and what they will cost! (PM if you don't want that to be public)

Probably the 10mm plungers used by Intertrashional. The RW governor can't handle them.

The governor type attached to the rear of the MW pump our engines use.

10mm plungers would have over 3x the pumping volume per stroke of the 5.5mm plungers. That means the governor has to be much more sensitive to rack movement control to get a stable idle, fuel limiting (RPM) and return to idle.

Correct, the 10mm plungers do push more volume (330.6% more, in fact, given that the cam is the same), but that does not definitively mean that the RW governor can not be adjusted or tweaked to keep up. The only way to tell is to calculate it, or try it. I'll be honest, I have no idea how to calculate it

EDIT: There is one more way to find out, and that is to ask someone who has done it what his or her results were, or to review said person's calculations. I would prefer a combination of all of these manners of determination.

Why would anyone consider 10mm plungers.........which would probably provide enough fuel for 375 hp.............??

It would seem that 7mm would be more than sufficient.

Are there 7mm plungers that fit the MW pump? I was only aware of 7mm ones that fit the M pump... There are "drop in" 10mm plungers for the MW pump, provided the governor can be made to keep up... could be cost-effective. I really think injectors and delivery valves should be primary concern, but if the 10mm mod could be done for the price of an IP rebuild... and be drivable...

Far more than that. 7mm will move enough fuel on a 5-banger for 400hp+, 10mm would be closer to 900hp worth of fuel!

Should we start making bets on how long it lasts at 900HP? I say 17 seconds.
