Just bought an 85 300D, first mods?

hey amigos, nice place ya got here.l just joined your forum... This is my second 300D and it has 213,000 miles, well maintained but the steering box leaks. l intend to buy a seal kit and repair it,besides that the car checked out great. l`m familiar with turbo technology and auto mechanics and l`ve been scouring the forum for insite into mods. l plan to install a boost guage and then let the mods begin . Any advice on a plan of action? l live at sea level, engine valves have just been adjusted and new injectors. The engine is very quiet, much quieter then my other car.No smoke besides a bit on start up which is pretty normal l think. thanks for any help ..

First performance mod on an 85 300d would be to leave hood open one night and see if some one comes by and stuffs a few BBs into your turbo's ARV(Air Recirculation Valve) vacuum line.

Then look at how to adjust the boost.

the ARV is located on the outlet of the compressor housing of the turbo. It has the vacuum line attached to it.

Why would you want to bypass the ARV? That would be a performance decrease IMO.

Because its only job is to reduce boost pressure so more exhaust can flow through the EGR. Without an EGR, the ARV is just a waste of space.

I was under the impression that it also kept the turbo spooled.

Nope, just an emissions device. The turbo will spool better pumping air into the engine to burn.
