blow off valve
can i put a blow off valve on on my 85 300dt and where would it go if i could put one on there?
|
not needed on a diesel, theres no throttle plate.
|
ahhh i c.... im looking at a used intercooler and the one i am bidding on has a port on it for a blow off valve, should i just block it off then?
|
Yeah, without the throttle plate, it will just sit there doing nothing. You could add one, but it will only be detrimental to your boost.
It would be pretty cool though to have one hooked up to a duck call for $hits & gigs. I was thinking about doing it for a while, but no. |
Yep, totally useless on a diesel except for S&G.

Over speeding the turbo isn't very failsafe.
|
A blow off valve can be used on a diesel to reduce/eliminate surge during shifts. However if you don't have a problem with surge then it does you no good.

God my wastegate sounds better than a ricer's blow of valve.Don't ask me how I did it,Forced will whip me.
|
Did you cut into the turbo's housing so that the wastegate vents directly to atmosphere?

IM me if you're afraid of Forced. |
BD offers a product called the Turbo Guard. It's really overpriced...but a bolt-on affair.
Mildly modified Cummins B5.9's frequently see 50psi+...going from that much boost back to idle is a really nasty transition that places the bearings in the turbo in an unfair sitation. Over time, these bearings will wear out prematurely. By relieving the pressure seen when the soot pedal is lifted and the engine is returning back to idle, your turbo will live longer - maybe. :) I've seen a few kits out there and they do work as advertised. The need for these is real for those making frequent trips between 0 and 50psi...like with a manual transmission between gears. Cheers, Matt |
