where to buy aftermarket turbos?

I'v been reading up on some of these aftermarket turbos, like vgt or vnt turbos. Would a turbo off a cummins 5.9 or 6.7 work well on the 617? I havn't been able to find the jeep liberty turbo for sale anywhere, i got a buddy who works as a service writer at jeep and he said his price on a new one is like $830, and i dont really want to spend that much. Does anyone have any good links or places i should check for an aftermarket turbo? even for a sprinter or anything else that would be suitable for the 617? I'd like to get what i can while i have the money to do so right now. thanks- J

You have to be creative on the wording, but ebay usually has several.

The turbos go under several different names.

An HY35 from a 2003-2006 Cummins would work decently but the HE351Ve from the 2007+ 6.7 is far too large for a 617.

Use these search links: VGT, VNT, sprint*, libert*

Here is a decent little upgrade.

What is the number off both the liberty and sprinter turbo? Is the liberty turbo one of the best ones you can go with on the 617? What kinda gains could i expect from swapping turbos?

i appreciate all of the feedback

the 2056 is a bit on the small side, but it commonly goes as a jeep m53 turbo

M53 is the casting number on the side of the compressor housing, fyi

i dunno if that ebay link will work but theres an m53 on there but it looks like it has an electronic actuator. does the jeep liberty turbo have a manual actuator? im kinda leaning toward wanting the liberty turbo

DeliveryValve 05-05-2009 07:48 PM

That is a later model Sprinter GT2256v Turbo with an electronic actuator. The earlier version GT2256v (I believe Pre-2004) have vacuum actuators. All Liberty GT2056v have vacuum actuators.

which one of those turbos would be applicable? and what if the turbo doesnt have a wastegate? does that mean that whatever level of boost it puts out is basicly what you get or are stuck with?

TurboSDL 05-06-2009 12:40 AM

is it safe to run a turbo without a wastegate?

ForcedInduction 05-06-2009 02:54 AM

VNT turbos don't use a wastegate.

The newer sprinter CDI's use them.

TurboSDL 05-11-2009 01:04 AM

so can u control the boost on a vnt? or is it just what u get is what you got?

ForcedInduction 05-11-2009 01:07 AM

Search the STD forum (click my signature), there are several threads dedicated on how to control them.

what aftermarket turbos bolt right up to the exhaust manifold if any? i remember reading a thread where sombody said theyre aftermarket turbo bolted right up to the stock manifold... the intake im not worried about just the exhaust, would be kinda nice to just bolt it right up.
