603.97x pump on a 603.96x engine, settings?
I know that the RPM will have to be turned up to 3.0L specs, does anybody know how that is done? What is full-load RPM and max. RPM (stock) of the 603.96 engine?

You need to determine which .97 IP you have
603.96x = 148hp @ 4600, 201lb-ft @ 2400
603.970 = 133hp @ 4000, 228lb-ft @ 2000 603.971 = 148hp @ 4000, 229lb-ft @ 2200 Max RPM (+/- 150rpm): 603.96x = 5150rpm 603.970 = 4250rpm 603.971 = 4750rpm |

Thanks, looks like I need to increase about 900rpm to get to the normal 3.0L upper limit (.970 pump).
Looking at the disparity between the HP@rpm on the .970 vs .971, and knowing that the throttling zone of the internal/centrifugal governor can reduce max. fuel available at lower RPM, I wonder if the difference between the .970 and .971 is simply the governor setting. It is unrealistic IMO to expect this style of governor to allow full-fuel at 4000rpm and limit no-load rpm to 4250. I had made this change to a Cat 3208 and picked up significant power at the full-load setting (although it made the no-load rpm a bit high). Again, thanks.
