Supercharger and Turbocharger in a Om617
thx to Cartek My mind is going crazy about superturbocharger, i was wanting to know what size or engine displacement size supercharger is suitable for a OM617.95 turbocharged, i know my 300SD has LOTS OF SPACE so a supercharger might be able to fit in there, anyways on a regular supercharger connects directely to the intake port right, but i cant put it in unless if i have modified the supercharger base, so my question is how do you make a supercharger connect to the turbo??? It has a rectangle shape so Do you have to take a metal plate (or make a metal box) with a 3 inch Diameter with an 5 inch in height pipe?? FIRST of all dose it benifits, will ruin the engine???

This is such a tempting project for me as well, If you get it running Actros, I'll want to see it!

Well first i have to find a supercharger, that might be a problem, what i am looking for is those MW90 form a Buick, they are cheap, its going to be lots of work and research, but first i have to rack up some $$$ and lots of them

You don't really need to compound them unless you're going for higher boost levels. I don't know what the stock boost levels are for the 617 but the Eaton M90 I have alone would probably do the trick.
There are versions on Buicks, Pontiacs and Fords. The one I have is the least specialized in design and it came from a T-bird. I got my M90 off ebay for a little over $100. You can also find the larger Eaton M112 from a Ford Lightning truck and underdrive it. The real expense is in the fabrication of the intake tubing - lots of TIG welding.

Are you planning on parallel or serial operation? Parallel is the only thing that really makes sense, but the plumbing becomes a nightmare.

IIRC it's closer to 7-8 psi.

Expect to pay around $200/hr for aluminum TIG welding, and that's assuming you have the stuff prepped and clamped in place when you drop it off at the shop.

Actros,
If you're just looking to have a supercharger as a substitute for the stock turbo, the M90 will suffice. It will give you instant throttle response and snappier acceleration. But, as the others said, there's a lot of welding and fabrication involved in making a clean installation. This is in addition to the base cost of the SC. As I said, I got mine for about $140 including shipping but I really lucked out because at the time, nobody wanted that particular SC. Now I see them going for a couple hundred bucks. Unless you have your heart set on the SC, I think a VGT is a much more parctical upgrade. There are already guys here who have done them and can help you along.

Seems like a lot of trouble if you're not significantly introducing more fuel along with the increased boost
