eking out better performance in a 240d
I realize that performance doesn't really fit when talking about the 240d, but being new to diesels and mercedes I am wondering if there are any techniques to squeezing a few more HP out of a 240d, assuming it is already tuned and properly maintained?
Any threads or online resources someone could point me to regarding this topic? thanks |
Exhaust, more air,and constant fuel supply(add electric boost pump).

Thanks. What kind of exhaust setups have people tried out? Any info available?
|
MY sig. straight exhaust, delete all mufflers if legal.Or go with one, like a diesel rated turbo.

A 240D with straight pipes is going to be much louder then most people can live with, been there...it is very loud and attracts much police attention!
At least run a cherry bomb or similar flow thru type muffler that does not restrict or plug up with soot. |
Glasspak packs with carbon. There is one that does not use glass wool.

I guess this raises the question as to whether opening up the exhaust flow produces any noticible difference in an OM616?
A few years back I put a straight-thru exhaust on my volvo 240t and was surprised at the difference the exhaust upgrade made in regards to the improving the overall feel of the engine's power. |
Pull the head off and have it ported, have a 3 angle valve job done and the head skimmed a little bit. port the intake and exhaust manfolds, and then install nitrous.

I have an 83 300TDT and would love to eek a little more juice out of it. Has anyone changed the intake system? I can imagine that breathing more fresh cool air and allowing the crankcase to breath to atmosphere would help. Closing up the EGR and similar soot building systems might help keep the head clean.
I have often considered a larger exhaust with a free flowing muffler, but dont wish for the car to be too loud. I drive a race car and get my "noisy jollies" there. I have a question about this: oldsinner111: Quote:
I had read previously that there was a place (Europe?) that modded the stock injection pump. Is there an easy Turbo upgrade? Thanks in advance for any answers. |

The thing here is the vane control. Hopefully in 2-3 weeks IP and turbo will work in the SD. The exhaust is a 3" SS with one free flow muffler. Tom |

Here have a look. Here is one. Thanks for the link. It is very informative. |

Don't worry, it's just a game we play here... Or, in some people's cases, it's a way of life: The "trunk badge of truth" :)

Thanks.
btw. , Evan, I might want your 7mm elements. A couple of weeks ago I sent you a PM concerning the 7mm elements. Mid of October I can tell you more. Tom |
Hey Tom, yeah, got that. I can't decide what to do about the potential failure. Do you have something to replace them with? :)
