om 602 egr delete kit

Okay I'm looking for a little bit of kindness from complete strangers. I just picked up a 90' 124 with a 2.5 turbo motor and am trying to get the thing running right. The vacuum transducer for the wastegate was leaking and preventing the turbo from working so I replaced that only to find out that the control module isn't grounding the transducer.

Anyways, long story short I checked all possible offending components and ruled it down to a bad control module. Needless to say I won't be buying one of those so it looks like it's time for an olde tyme boost controled waste gate mod. I saw the extremley helpful thread that was posted over the last few months concerning this mod and am very grateful for everyone else's footwork. My only question is where can I get one of those egr delete kits? I fished around a little on the internet and the best that I could do is verify that they do exist somewhere. If anyone could help me out with this I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for the help,
Matt

Hello Matt,

Here is the link I used. I don't know if the offer is still valid so email Brian and ask. BTW the problem you have with the turbo not engaging is the same problem a friend of mine has on his wife's car, but he couldn't get to the bottom of it. Thanks for the explanation, now I can help him troubleshoot it.

No problem, thanks for the link! If you need any info/advice I might be able to help out. I work at a dealership but mostly do 210 chassis and newer stuff. That being said I have access to our library and a couple of old guys. What year is her car?

Pressure wastegate swap

Matt,

GSXR's wastegate swap is the first modification you should make!

Wastegate actuator swap for OM602.962?

It a 1991 300D 2.5 Turbo. Being rank amateurs in the local MBCA club, neither of us knew where to start looking since we don't have a service manual and MB doesn't sell it anymore. I know Startek info offers a subscription, but based on what I found in a bootleg copy of the service manual we didn't have confidence that it would help. Basically the turbo won't engage at all, it has a large oil leak on the passenger side of the engine around the mounting bolts for the egr housing, and it appears to be burning a lot of oil with white smoke coming intermittently out the exhaust. But when we checked the oil level it appears fine, and when my friend took off the oil filler cap and placed his hand over the hole, he couldn't feel any pressure, which I'm told is a quick way to check for leaking head gasket. Engine has 275K and needs a timing chain and overhaul, so we're getting ready for it. Any advice appreciated,

The oil leak and the turbo not coming on are going to be two seperate problems. As far as getting the turbo to work the mod that GSXR wrote a thread on is by far the quickest and easiest. I spent 4x as long just detemining what was wrong with my car as it took me to modify, install, and plum in the wastegate. Once the part was in hand it took me about an hour to do the job (in a shop with a lift) and the part was I think like 90 bucks with overnight fedex. My cost for one of the three leaky transducers that I had was about the same, waste of money for an overcomplicated system.

A head gasket can fail in a bunch of different ways. Compression can leak between two cylinders, into the crankcase, into a coolant jacket, or oil into the coolant or vice versa. If you have white smoke from the exhaust look for bubbles in the coolant reservoir, that's a for sure combustion to coolant head gasket leak (or a cracked head or block)

I think that your probably right about a rebuilt at that milage. At the very least pull the head off and have a valve job done and it checked for cracks. Maybe measure the cylinder bores for taper/out of round if you have a "t-gauge". I'm probably not the one to talk to about these cars though, I'm just now learning about them. We see mostly newer stuff at work, I can tell you all about how the "bluetec" diesels break
