OM617 Exhaust Headers
Has anyone here built an exhaust header for your OM617 Turbo? I'm looking into doing a header for my 300SD and just wondered if it had been done before what the lengths and diameters were that someone came up with.

This has been brought up before, so far no one has posted back with results.
If you do work it out, please let us know the dimensions! |
Why are you doing this, and what is your goal? Thanks.

My collectors have been process coated- similar to jet hot coatings. It keeps the exhaust hot and thus moving faster past the headers. It also allows a quicker cool down when less fuel is being burned. I've removed the stock muffler and put in a straight pipe- it's only marginally louder, but the power increase via but dyno and spoolup time are both improved. Too many folks have complained of droning in the cabin if you remove the resonator for me to attempt this. Going to a larger exhaust can also be time consuming, so these are the quickest, most easy mods to improve the stock system IMHO.

If you want over 200hp from your OM617 you need better exhaust manifold and intake manifold also bigger turbo like the master i have. |

If you want serious power you need to go beyond stock exhaust manifold and intake manifold  |
The head is the limit to power. Invest in porting instead of manifolds.

I think the header is sexy...

i know this thread has been dead for a while, buuut i was wondering if there was a finished pic of this manifold. i see its not cut out yet for the intake runners just wondering what it ended looking like.
and also tubular exhaust thread bump maybe |
Bump. I'd like to also know if there are any more updates regarding upgrading stock exhaust manifolds.
