Yet another ALDA question...
I have modified my ALDA setting (I was giddy when I found it had been turned all the way in by the PO..sheesh..). The car is a 84 300D, Federal non California (thank God..). I turned it CCW out, and WOW..I have a car again. Not a traffic hazard in the left turning lane from a dead stop. But I noticed one thing, and I wonder. Does turning the ALDA out affect my mid range and higher speed driving? The cars boost doesn't seem to be as much now, maybe its a placebo affect from suddenly gaining nice bottom end grunt. Another question, that anti-tapering tube around the adjustment nut, how does one remove that? The screw seemed to be fairly attached when I tried turning it all the way out, and I wanted to be gentle.
Lastly, are there any formulas on linkage adjustment? Lengths in comparison to each other and the bowden cable, etc? Great site, learning more and more... Last edited by irishflyer; 08-18-2009 at 03:12 PM. Reason: added car and year |

What car?
I adjusted mine too, same result. It starts in first gear now. As far as less top end, I don't think so.

The car is a 1984 300D. The tranny seems to shift better now, I would imagine the engine is making power closer to the right shift points than before. Might be a placebo effect, not having any bottom end, and then suddenly feeling power when the boost built up. But still would like to know what parameters to adjust linkage length, the timing of the linkage to tranny cables, etc..

Well I drove almost a year before I found out I had half throttle.
Have someone mash pedal all the way while you see if IP is at the stop.Pretty easy to take up slack. Then adjust trans cable.

20psi boost is overkill (Not that I haven't tagged 28psi before...)
No ALDA you only have 11-12"psi" of fuel No ALDA and no internal rack limiter, you have only 14 "psi" of fuel

Anything more than 15psi on these t3/kkk is pointless and is just a heat pump.

i deal mostly with full size diesel pickups but they are the same way. a stock HE351 turbo from an 06 dodge will not push dense air past 34psi, anything above that it becomes inefficent. oldsinner, is that a sprinter charger you're running. i've been kicking around the idea of running an hx35 i have laying around but i don't think i'll have enough fuel to use it efficently.

Just a few hours ago I test drove my 82 SD with 3" exhaust and a Garrett GT23V. Even with only 0.5 bar max. boost the car is way faster than with the stock charger and without any smoke (there is also some potential). Restriction in fuel will be history at least when the new Holly65 elemeents are ready in the next few weeks. But as I said before, even now there is a huge difference. I will change the spring of the boost regulation actuator (before I will fab an adjustable actuator) to get 0.8 bar, then give her a little more fuel until smoke starts. Tom |

[QUOTE=1lowdiesel;2274125]i would have to agree with that.
oldsinner, is that a sprinter charger you're running. No its a stock turbo with added sheilding from exhaust side.I plan to intercool.

sounds like that's about a 45mm charger no? the HX is a 54mm. little too big imo. my buddy adn i are putting his extra SD motor in a 52 chevy, we are going to mess with that one quite a bit. prolly gonna use the HX under the kkk charger for a mild twin set up.

Has anybody successfully used a newer variable turbo off the Dodge diesel? I read an article where a kid put one on a Mitsu ricer, with acceptable results. The equivalent turbos in it's adjustment range are 35-60mm IIRC.
