Top speed
hi my ride is a naturally aspirated 603.917 with an auto.
What sort of top speed are you guys able to get? I know we have speed limits and i am only looking form a how well is my ride point of view. I would also be be keen to know if any one has time for the 1/8 and 1/4 mile. For the same reason above, dont see this as a drag car, except maybe against snails in the garden LOL.

I don't have a 603, but here are some numbers for what I do have:
w123/617.952: 114 mph on a slight downhill grade at about 4000 ft elevation. Level ground top speed about 110. w123/616.912: Seems to vary on a daily basis, but something like 80. Some days it will go a little faster, others it barely holds 75. Uphill of course, it goes much much slower. Downhill, I've had it up the never exceed speed of 90. w114/M130.923: Not sure at this point. It managed a hundred when I first bought it. Two carb rebuilds and a tranny rebuild later, I made a top end run on a remote stretch I-80 but ran out of straight road and lifted at 104. I don't think it will go much faster than that.

There is a 603 that was hanging out at around 5000 rpms shown here in post #16...
http://www.superturbodiesel.com/std/top-speed-t-1129.html Owner admitted the speedo is off because of incorrect differential, but certainly can give you an idea of where you can go. .

I've had my 603 to 115, felt like it had some left in it. I'll tune it up and get back to you on it. It really is an autobahn stormer, loves to go 100mph.

I've seen 130+ in my first '87 300D, pretty much stock except for tune and the trap-ox delete, GPS says I'm within .5%.
Factory spec with the trap-ox installed was 124mph. In Germany in the '80s, the factory numbers were always conservative. Seems that a well tuned one should see mid 130s or better.

I just cruised about 110 for 40 miles or so on a stretch of empty highway, she'll hit about 115, maybe 120 on a downhill, I need a lower diff ratio....

I'm sure I remember the NA 300D with the OM603 topped out around 121 mph. That was with the 5 speed manual transmission.
I don't know what gearing you're running in yours, but I would guess top end would run about 110 - 120 mph. Somewhere thereabouts.

You guys get some great speeds maybe my ride is sick.
At around 140 kph she loses grunt but was still increasing speed. I may have to find some car free road and see how far she will climb. In an Aussie forum it was comparable to every one else. Appreciate your posts. PS that was on diesel.
