If it's intact and it runs, you'd be crazy not to buy it, at least for parts & spares. If it's nice enough, I'd fix it!

Excellent - it would be good to rule out one thing at a time. The only way to check the injector health is via pop tester, although I've seen some pretty lousy spray patterns (or pressure variations) that still ran amazingly well. If it's shaking the whole engine around it would have to be a REALLY bad injector!

Been sitting in a field for 6 years, no rims, so it is sitting in the mud, floors are probably bad. Rear window is smashed out so the interior is dry rotted and destroyed. The only body panels not dented are the hood (missing grille and headlights), roof, and passenger fender. Not worth fixing IMO. However, definitely worth putting the engine trans and rear subframe on a palette and holding onto. I'd like to see it turn over though. It only has 180k on it... and it isn't wrecked, so why did it get scrapped? Turbo turns and has less shaft play than my turbo, full of oil, trans is full of oil and the fluid isn't that bad. So I am not sure about it. Give me a couple weeks on it.

Why do people do stupid things like this? *sigh* I'd offer $400 for it, yank the parts that are decent (powertrain, etc) and scrap the rest. No way it's worth fixing in that condition.

Its at a junkyard, he says he has a title, I offered $450, since he is the scrapper he says its worth over $500 in scrap. I'll do $650 if I can hear it run.

Did you get my PM about the tank babymog?

I did, sorry I don't check the PMs often.
Tank is in MI, I'm in IN, I need to rectify that with all of my parts, ...

I need to get to MI in the next week, possibly this weekend. Let me know if you get in a hurry, otherwise I'll just let you know when I get it.

It's clean and dry, has all of the innards also.

No rush, just know it has my name on it.

Called on the 300D today to try to make a deal, no answer, a friend of mine will be in the area next week so maybe I'll let him show up in person.

Bought the parts car tonight, I'll go get it next weekend. I am keeping the powertrain and subframe and parting the rest. Stay tuned.

Back to driving the old 300D! My god this car shakes a lot. Tomorrow I am going to try the loosening injectors trick and see if I can identify one that is bad. I have 6 spare injectors would it be an okay temporary fix to replace the bad injector (providing i can find it) with one of my spare injectors? Should I be soaking them in diesel? I've got new heatsheilds. What is the torque spec for injectors?

Ultimately I want to replace the tank, put in my new bosio nozzles, etc.

Also, can I adjust the alda without pulling the intake? My friend and I had to go somewhere today in separate cars, his 602 destroys my car off the line but on the highway above 2,000rpms my car is faster than his. So I take it this is yet another sign pointing to my low rpm fueling being out of adjustment.

Alda can be done with the intake on, I've done it twice, but most say it is faster to just pull the intake.

Will I have to replace the intake manifold gasket?

It will never be glass-smooth like an M104, but it should be darn close.

If you find a bad one, I'd sure try a spare - couldn't hurt.

Nope.

In the FSM.

Definitely, however since the IP rotates for adjustment, on some cars the ALDA may interfere with the metal injection lines and not want to come out after it's loosened. In that case the intake may have to come off. Otherwise, I can remove the ALDA in under 5 minutes on my '87 with the intake in place. Photos are on my website, pretty sure I already posted a link.

Not unless the metal lines are "trapping" the ALDA in there... I'd only pull the intake if absolutely necessary.

Depends how old the gasket is, and if the gasket is the OE type with metal-reinforced core, or the cheaper paper type. The OE type can be re-used multiple times. The plain paper type may not survive.

Oh dear. Yes, you have serious low-RPM fueling issues. A properly tuned 603 should leave a properly tuned 602 in the dust from a stop, and it even outruns an M103 to 30mph or so.

Diesels aren't glass smooth, HOWEVER. The whole car shouldn't move. My entire car shakes visibly from the outside. People notice in traffic, its embarrassing.

Is it possible that my lack of fuel down low from my ALDA is also part of the car missing? or is the idle fuel ratio unrelated.

This week is busy with classes so I won't work on my car until Thursday or so, but I will look at the ALDA. My goal for this weekend is replacing an injector or 3 and turning the alda a dozen times haha.

Now that I've been mean to my car I will say that I drove it to Norwalk for NHRA drags today, about 4 hours total, god this is a great highway car, I want it to run right badly. Hopefully better injectors will help me in the mpg department, I am only seeing around 25mpg average, which is decent but my friend just got 31.8 out of his 602 and we buy diesel at the same place and live in similar areas (fuel quality, altitude etc)

Don't over-adjust the alda, you'll break it internally. Some won't even give you the 1-1/2 turn CCW that we tend to use as a start point.
