There are Three filters in a 1982 W123.....
There is one on the outlet of the fuel-tank. There is the small plastic inline strainer-type filter in the fuel-line to the lift-pump. There is the spin-on cannister type mounted by the side of the steering-pump.... (When changing this one, Make sure you replace the 'O' rings on the bolt too, and fill new filter with clean fuel to aid priming up after)
