Pretty strong 603...

Mine was pretty stout, but this version is just a bit more beefy. In a wagon too!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxepyHojLnI&feature=related

If you read the comments looks like the timing is a bit advanced, interesting. I know 603's are very sensitive to timing a couple of degrees either way.

Yeah, I'd be more impressed if it did it without blacking out the sky behind it.....talk about waste of fuel. Diesel is expensive to be blasting it out of the exhaust like that.

Wow tough crowed, feel like I posted on a Prius forum. This is a Mercedes diesel forum right?

I don't know if you guys know this but diesels actually are not that bad for the environment. Soot is mostly harmless and settles back down to the ground where it is consumed by bacteria.

When you crank the fuel up on a diesel to make power you create soot, again surprised that the membership here doesn't understand this.

I like it. The advanced timing changes the combustion noise at idle a little. I think it sounds more like a Cummins. This is a good thing.

I am concerned about the perception of its clouds of smoke by the lay public.

Try to drive it in front of a CA Highway Patrol motor bike and see what happens.

Explain to him/her "Soot is mostly harmless and settles back down to the ground where it is consumed by bacteria"

Thats not ALL soot coming out of there, a lot of it is improperly burned fuel/smoke too. I'm aware diesel's are not that bad to the environment, but that particular one is.

I don't mean to threadjack, but soot is pretty bad for the environment and human health. I'm pretty sure it's one of the leading causes of childhood asthma in urban areas, and also in 'less-developed' nations with fewer air quality laws.

I love diesels as much as the other guy.... but I prefer to have a clear view out of my rearview mirror.

Who cares about the environment its one car.

Way to serious I was hoping to talk about tuned diesels, this is a diesel enthusiast forum right?

Anyway on another note anyone actually tune one of these? I'm interested in the timing? I wonder how much one has to modify from a stock 603 to get that kind of power? What kind of boost are you able to pump in without melting the pistons?

Would be interesting to see what the 603 can take. just for wits *****s n giggles. I do wonder how extensively that is modified internally

Thats not soot. That's pure disgusting unburnt fuel. HX40 is much to large of a turbo for a tuned merc diesel. Needs a smaller VNT/VGT badly.

The only reason that car can pump that much fuel is because of the modified injection pump. These cars aren't capable of jack **** with the stock 5.5mm elements.
