Is this still available?

winmutt 07-19-2011 12:32 PM

Been gone. Check out 4btswaps.com.

Thinking about one for your 603? I dont remember if you have a modded pump or not. I ended up with a HY30W. HX30 is probably a better fit and the HY30 has a t25 flange and requires complete disassembly to clock it right. HX30 is t3 flanged, no clue on clocking. If you look at the specs on the HY30 and HX30 they are the next step over stock in every aspect. I believe the T25 flange is large enough to flow without restriction on stock as the 606 uses a smaller hole.

I'm investigating a turbo upgrade for the 606 in my S124. I think I'll use the stock 606 turbo on my mTDI Vanagon swap.

winmutt 07-19-2011 12:53 PM

HY30 or HX30 is the way to go IMO if the pump stays stock. Garrett was decades behind Holset until recently. Although you currently have a VNT turbo right?

auspumpen 07-19-2011 01:17 PM

The pump is from a 603 and has 6mm elements. The turbo is the tiny little stock KKK, but I've swapped in a boost-controlled wastegate, vs the vacuum unit. I'll look for the T3 flanged Holset, but I might be interested in finding a T25 flanged unit for my 602. I'll have to weld up an adapter plate for the 606, since it uses an odd three bolt flange.

winmutt 07-19-2011 01:48 PM

That odd three bolt is the same flange on the gt2359v which is def worth going after.

The HY30W might be a little too big for the 602. Finding a turbo that is larger than stock but not to large is a real PITA for the 2.5-3L range. The HY30W is used on the 3.9L 4BT which is why I think the t25 is totally suitable for the 603/606.

Has anyone perfected a vane controller for the VN turbos?

winmutt 07-19-2011 04:44 PM

Yes no and maybe. We have working examples of controlling the hella actuator. FI has a working setup using pnuematics. There are a variety of other options as well, including fixed vane.

I'd love to on a stock solution with you if you want. The board is about $30 or so...

HX30 These are t3 flanged and way easier to clock than the HY30W I have. The main question would be oil orientation in relation to the exhaust flange mounting. The wheels are easy enough to get a hold of as well as the rebuild kits,

65.50mm Turbine 73mm Compressor

This is smaller than the he341 (76mm compressor) but larger than the hy30w. I will measure my HY30W tonight as I finally have my calipers back and the compressor wheel is off.

winmutt 07-29-2011 11:00 AM

The HY30W Compressor inducer is 68mm give a mm or 2 (battery on caliper died). That pretty much makes it the smallest holset upgrade for any of the MB turbos.

In other words, exactly as I have it listed.
Here is the complete list: Turbocharger information, VNT and wastegated

Where do you think I got that incorrect information from?

Where is my rolling eyes emoticon. Again I am not trying to argue with you on the internet. What I have in my hands and what you have listed are your site do not match. I'm quite happy that your information was incorrect and that the compressor wheel is a better match for my needs.
