injector modification...

I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WITH PERFORMANCE MODS

just thought I'd put that out there up front.

I was driving on the highway thinking... I know dangerous territory, but I digress...
modern bluetec and other DI motors have several reasons for massive HP... but fuel atomization and delivery/control are the biggest ones I think...
I'm wondering if having an injector with more than one point of fuel spray would improve combustion/burn...

like an injector with 3 or 4 nozzels instead of one. perhaps with different spray pressures on them, so a short burst, large burst, and medium burst... timing would be interesting, but how would something like that be worked? I think injectors are pressurized to have pulses during stroke... why not pulses on multiple nozzels in the PC?

I believe IDI's are restricted to a single jet of fuel directed at the impingement ball. You can improve injection efficiency by installing larger pump elements which of course, has the potential to injector a larger quantity as well as shortens injection duration.

Modern, electronically controlled injection systems can(and do) do multiple injections for each power stroke. Our mechanical systems can not.

From what I have read and learned injectors seem to be good for at least 300hp on the 617 engines. injection pumps need mods (bigger elements)to make that, and a differant turbo.

There is a good thread about pc modification, this is next on my list, and may well be followed by bigger elements.

VW TDI's (starting mid 90's) used injectors with 5 hole nozzle tips and 2 stage pop (pilot and main injection) by using 2 sets of springs in the injector.

Is that 2 stage happening at the injector or the element or DV?

Can't use those VW TDI injectors in the 617. You can use the non TDI two stage and they produce a very quiet engine and more power on the upper end, less on the low end. I have such a set, but with the Myna pump and stock turbo I think I'd rather have the low power back. I may switch with my wife's car stock injectors soon.

Not TDI, the 1.9L AAZ engine. They are the correct threads and design on both ends but require an MB /240 or 265 nozzle to be used inside.
Here are the injectors I installed.

The biggest problem is finding an injection shop capable of adjusting both stages. All the engines they're used in are Canadian so finding a local option is next to zero chance, thats what made me give them up.
